In solidarity with my good friend I also broke the golden rule, accordingly I too have left the building and I will not retract ANYTHING I HAVE SAID, I would like to wish the all the members less one well and the sites continued success....... Hasbeen your comments regarding Terry are completely out of order - I trust you are happy.......

I dunno, I got out for 1/2 hour and look what happens!

Interestingly, I read the post as a compliment to Terry, who I assume is John's late father, not a dig at him (a dig at John maybe). ('Killer Instinct' being the balls & determination required to win)

Martin, your 'solidarity' with John is touching, but your words suggest a familiarity with John's father, that as you obviously didn't know him, sounds insincere.

You are filth Hasbeen.

Then you decide to bring Terry Hedges into a post?

Very sad.

Wish Terry was still with us - I can just imagine what he would do.

Jon,
No I didnt know Terry, but I wish I had, however I do know John, we had a plan to get a finish and we achieved it, Its the win that counts.. and I can honestly call John a very close friend, If anybody has a go at my friends and attacks their (sadly deciesed parents) then they also attack me - thats what friends are for.... End Of

John/martin,

Thanks for that! It was a busy week to say the least with workin on the boat till midnight thursday! Testin friday at soton and sat at torquay and as you said havin drive issues sat. I was happy with my 3rd place in pole and fourth in the in the race with only a few seconds behind 2nd/3rd and me bein fourth considering my lack of top end speed and engine issues we discovered after the race. (more bad luck) .
The boat is off for a diet wednesday and the engine repair is now in progress!

History

Terry Hedges got my father into the sport back in '81

Terry was a great navigator and loved the sport.

He was the Boatmad of his day, before the net he would make loads of phone calls to competitors to tell them what was going on.

He also introduced many new competitors to the sport.

Well, I must be missing something!

EDIT>
FWIW, the likes of Steve Baker, Neil Holmes, Nick Barsch and Richard Strutton had 'killer instinct', and if someone suggested I had it, I'd be very flattered indeed!
Killer Instinct is summat you either have, or you haven't, you can't learn it. Those that have it are truly gifted, those that don't will forever be just 'also rans'.

I've no idea if Terry Hedges had it, because like Pash, I didn't know him and unlike Pash, I can't pretend to be emotional, but the suggestion he had it can only be a compliment in my book.

But as I said, I'm obviously missing something that only seasoned racers like Martin Warren can see with such apparent clarity.

Case Closed.

A sense of humility I would guess, Jon have a go at me if you wish, but John’s Dad… in which ever way you read it… to have a member say what Hasbeen said and then for you to defend it is well really sad…

A Good rule of thumb would be dont have a go at someone who cant defend themselves - perhaps Terry would have ripped Hasbeen's head off but Sadly he cant - Just spare a moment and thought for John in this, and when you have you might think differently..

Yeah! Just imagine, someone paying a great compliment a now deceased powerboat racer! What kind of arsehole would do that.

Martin Warren:

Whatever! I stand by what I said. Nothing insulting was said about John's father, only a compliment, but if you're too stupid to see it, fine.
It saves me banning you. goodbye.

John H:

I'm sorry you're offended, as I said, I genuinly think the comment was intended as kind words re your fathers approach to racing (though probably a sarcastic dig at yours).

John Moore:

I haven't got the foggiest what that comment means!

May I interject?

I knew Bill Matcham and Terry Hedges very well in the late 70's and early eighties when my father in law Paddy Reilly and I were always battling neck and neck in OCR 1.3 litre, while Bill and Terry where battling in 3B 1.3 litre. In those days we tended to race all classes together, so we had shared experiences to draw on before and after each race.

Bill and Terry were a fantastic fun crew, enthusiastic, hard working and collaborative.

But if my memory serves me right, and without resorting to the attic, Bill drove and Terry navigated. Of course it doesn't really matter in a team sport, which offshore racing is.

I was saddened to hear from John about his Dad, because when I decided to come back to the sport last year, I was looking forward to reacquainting with Terry and restablishing the p*ss taking repartee we had enjoyed previously.

I don't recognise any negative comments about Terry Hedges in the previous reports, because they'd be dismissed as unfounded, he was a fun, respected gentleman and racer and will always remain so, to those who raced with him.

Memories of racing flat out in bumpy seas at Margate, with Paddy, B&H and me in a trio line, with Scanlite, Hospitality Inns, Agfa etc, right up our backsides are embedded for ever.

Margate '78 I flipped, but while the Yamaha works mechanics sorted out the boat it was Terry who came into the medical centre to see if I was OK and to take the p**s.

Saddly missed, fondly remembered.

John, keep the memory alive and don't bugger off just yet, wait for something important.

That was referring back to the Allhallows race. I was in Cowes this weekend and managed to get a race on one of the Extreme 40's - quite an experience.

Should have the Aquavite at Cowes PB weekend - although probably won't be racing. The whole race scene just is not really doing it for me at the moment. I'm sure I will race again - but for the moment just feels like there is more BS than ever, more expensive than ever, more moaning than ever and less boats than ever etc.
