canopys

in race instructions it says no canopys, which i am told is because the water is not deep enough. It would be a problem if a canopy boat overturned and there was no depth of water to open the lid.

Wonder why depth became so topical, did a Billy sicknotes have a winge or moan towards the top of the food chain

IMHO grass root racing at it's best & I have never ever not been given a warm welcome there.

PS. CIP

Can't you just stay on the Air & wait for the tide to go out?

Angry

At the risk of putting a few noses out of joint I would like to raise a few questions about the event SEPA are holding at Allhallows and indeed question their ethics. I understood its aim was to promote powerboat racing and indeed its website quotes "SEPA wants to rekindle the interest in powerboat racing at grass roots level by creating ‘Super Club Class Racing’ where events are organised under the rules of the RYA and take place within clubs, between clubs and between regions, with the more determined entrants going on to compete in the national series and some clubs hosting major national events. SEPA emphasis will always remain on the racing of standard, off-the-shelf boats with single engines, in an exciting, but safe, environment as well as promoting the development of competitors and clubs to RYA national level" however they seem to have a problem with UKFFORC and in particular the new E1500 class. Limits have been put on the taster day event of a maximum 2500cc on boats up to 23' effectively ruling out entry of this class, why I ask myself?? The word 'dangerous' has been bandied around (mostly by the OCR dinosaurs) but if this were the case the RYA would not be endorsing the class. Other classes have come and gone with these tollerances but memories are short. Come on SEPA - do what it says on the label, and open this up to everyone!

Unfortunately it was the RYA that put the restrictions on in the first place. It was always agreed that when the 2ltr engines exceeded 200hp that we would have to run bigger boats. Bearing in mind that over 2ltr in offshore (C3) requires boats in excess of 23' !!

It is very difficult when they keep moving the goalposts !! Surfice it to say that top heavy 2.6ltr engines on 18' boats in offshore conditions WILL be dangerous and I suspect that both AYC and SEPA would not wish to be a part of that.
There are huge differences between a boat with a 200hp in leisure trim compared to the same in wanabe race trim !!

No doubt you could organise a basic event for bigger classes if you so wish.

Good Luck

Bob

RE: Lil Devil

I usually avoid replying to quotes like the Lil Devil's, in case it dignifies drivel. However, it's obvious we do need to put the record straight.
First, the Shakedown race on Sunday the 26 April is being organised by Allhallows Yacht Club, in exactly the same way as they have traditionally organised it for the last 30 years. I'm assured by the AYC committee that they review the rules annually and this year saw no valid reason to change a successful, tested, format.
SEPA are organising the Taster Day on Saturday, to encourage new and returning guests to sample a race boat in a non-competitive environment. There will no racing. just high speed demonstrations in well driven, well prepared OCR boats to provide a modicum of experience to potential racers of the future.
The two clubs will work together collaboratively, to provide a fun, productive weekend at one of the friendliest venues in the country.
No 'noses will be put out of joint' by the petulance of a tiny minority. By the way, SEPA has no official viewpoint on UKFFORC E150, it's an experimental club class in 2009, running under the well organised Thunder banner. We wish it all the luck and hope that it encourages many more boats onto the water.
SEPA's decision to limit the engine capacities to 2500cc was to bring it in line with the existing rules OCRDA and AYC, it's two most closely aligned clubs and to avoid confusion, of which there is already too much as the aforementioned posts proves. This forum should be fun and enjoyable, not a free for all for the misinformed.

We are looking forward to having you and Bluefin there, Pash. AYC are experts in providing a great, friendly atmosphere and clean, tidy facilities. My only concern is that my liver has already started twitching.
