Avoid touch screen for open boats if you can

I use a Lowrance HDS5. Haven't managed to break it yet, very easy to use, and fully compatible with NMEA2K networks for modern motors to get engine data on screen.

My advice is based on their ability to go wild on the application of too much sea water!
ps Garmin have always been my favourite small GPS but I am impressed by the Raymarine kit we have now.

I use the Raymarine E Series, however when you have the touch screen activated, it hates any spray in the rough and can change screens etc, this is simply fixed by activating the lock function, enabling only the buttons which works fine in the rough, then you still have the touch screen easy function for day boating.
Another option if its just for small course racing is an iPad App featured on the following link, with a lifeproof case and gorilla clamp you could overlay course notes, muster areas etc, looks quite cool but havent used it personally, it does mention marine use.

I have used both iPhone and iPad to navigate with in an open boat, works ok, but is difficulty to see in daylight.
