Boss 34 build...
Well, we now have a 3rd 'new' design/build confirmed which will show it's face in the Marathon series.
An Adam Younger design, and Kevan Cozans build, the new Boss 34 looks to be a great potential contender.
Some pics of the plug progress..

Looks good, but how do they plan on taking the mould out after it's built. Or am I missing something?

I would imagine that once the mould has cured, and all the stiffening is on it, they'd drag the whole affair (on it's sled) to a suitable location for lifting the mould off the plug...
...But I'm guessing.

34' Stepped hull - the way it's looking no-one will be able to be accused of pot hunting with all of the new boats being built!
There must be a door somewhere

The plug is being built on a mezzanine floor.
In the last picture you can see the over head lifting gear that will be used to move it.
Either that or the roof is coming off !!

OK, now he's put his head above the parapet, it's public.
The new boat has been commissioned by Robin Hyde ('Zed' on boatmad) who will be racing it in Marathon. Things are definitely looking up for racing. His avatar is to be fair, rather flattering.
Boat will compete in D Class, so 'Mick-Mick Racing' had better watch out.
I reckon E & D classes will end up well populated as time moves on, really good classes I think.

Very pleased to be involved with this project and very much looking forward to seeing our latest design develop and race. I believe we have got a really good balance between performance, handling, rough water and calm water - with a hull that will also be practical as a high speed leisure boat. Build is coming along very well and quality / finish is going to be top class.
Certainly going to be very interesting once all these new boats hit the water....

All of this going on in the middle of one of the worse recessions for 60 years. Quite unbelievable and you couldn’t make it up. What a boost for ALL of the industry.
Just goes to show that Marathon is the way forward. No other race fleet will have the numbers that Marathon will shake down at Cowes this year.
I repeat, quite unbelievable and so good to see!

I've know Robin for 20 years or more, and am sure he's gonna be a very keen & competitive racer, he doesn't usually do things by half. Shame he hasn't got batman with him (perky)

On the contrary O Hairy One.
The crew of the R34 are both Time Served men with nothing left to prove and with joint offshore racing experience dating from '72.
We have with us a 'prentice midshipman for whom we have the responsibility of bringing him back alive!
You have nothing to fear from us old pensioners, as we will just pootle around taking in the scenery a hopefully not getting in the way of you young hellraisers.

OK, figured it was upstairs, or else you had a house with no walls!
Saw the lifting gear ok, fine for turning it over but it looks like the pillars on both sides prevent you from moving either way!
So roof comming off then, want to do ours too, need a new one?

Boss 34 - Build Update
The build has moved on a lot in the last month, the plug has now been painted, just a little more work before the mold is made.
The final deck design is almost there, I suspect there will be a little tweaking in the build process.
Kevan and his team are doing a fantastic job, so much time and effort goes into creating the plug, just a shame it has to be destroyed once the mold is made.

I see you have an overhang over the stern. Are you measuring the hull from the transom to the bow or from the rear of the design to the bow to get your 34'?

The 34' is without the swim platform.
I think Nik prefers it without one and Tim and I prefer it with one, so we might see the second boat out of the mold without.

Having seen the plug evolve with regular trips to kev's it does look pretty nice! I prefer it with the swim platform myself. It should look nice when completed.
He has been a busy boy coz i think my boats gonna be ready at the weekend!

It looks like a fantastic project out of interest is the name Boss from the same people the 18-21' Boss boats of the 80's were by ... great to see this the BananaShark and the Ring all in development are these boats all aiming for the same D class, I know the ring is small block petrol and the BananaShark diesel, will the Boss be petrol or diesel or something else like errrrrr ... sail

The boat we are doing will have Yanmar BY260's, but it will fit into a couple of classes higher with the appropriate power - we will be offering diesel petrol and of course outboard versions! It will be great if the Boss is in Class E with us - more to race against!
