it wasnt 1/2 metre on the outbound and inbound legs! more like 1.5m in certain points, the pier straight was very flat though.

ok, point taken (again), just seemed quite a bit more than 1/2 metre at certain points, mostly the later part of the outward leg. But hey wot do i know, i couldt see a fat lot through me shite visor!

Whilst you may think i'm just trying to have a dig, i'm not. It's just that wave height seems to be a bit like the proverbial fishermans catch..."it was this big".

In my opinion/experience, a genuine 6' sea is feckin mountainous when you're trying to go at it at speed, and looks & feels more like a 12' sea. A 'genuine' 3 foot sea is quite a bastud at racing speed, think of hitting a steep 3' high ramp in your car at 70! now I know you aint got a car, but you know what I mean, how high would that throw you!

Here's a bit of video of the point where you catch up with, and overtake Matt, out on the farthest point of the course, it aint that clear, coz the camera is on full zoom, but you're so far away that you still look pretty small.

Looking at the vid, do you think the waves look twice the height of your boat?

I don't think he did, he just took the top off a wave, which is easy if the previous wave(s) launched you, then tripped you a little, you only need to dip the bow enough to take a few inches off the top of the third.

ok agreed, all i was saying was it SEEMED to me, more than 0.5m at certain points of the race! and at points appeared to me to be upto 1.5m.........
I'm sure given time and experience i will understand just how calm this race was, but as it was our first race ever, i dont really have any comparisons, like you say, when yr flat out things seem to take a different perspective.

The only reason I wanted to say what I did, is that when someone says 'I was running 75 across a 2 foot chop (which is quite summat in a small boat), it doesn't seem quite such an achievement if everyone thinks running 70 in a 5' sea, in a 19 footer is 'normal', or 'easy'.

It was a more confused sea on that leg, and slightly bigger. But it was pretty calm overall, and I just ****ed up!

it was lumppy on the outbound bit plus a bit of freighter wash at one point!we were only pulling about 5500rpm onthe outward bit,it was interesting to see the big yellow rib do hook and sideways bit on the outward turn boy!

I'd have thought your boat when on the plane was more than 3.5' tall? My P20 is nearly 3' tall when measured from the bottom of the V.

Waves look alot bigger when they're coming at you from the side and the boat is leaning towards them too!!!

On second thoughts I guess it would make driving flat out in a following sea a piece off piss
