If anyone is interested........

We have splashed, corrected and amended, with Adams blessing, advice and agreement his Blackthunder Batboat.

We will be racing 2 of the new ones in the Malta series this year, 1 in the 250
class and 1 in the 200 class. 1st boat comes out of the mold next week and should be in the water for testing with a 250xs on the back, in 3 weeks.

Original boat was lazer alligned and corrected before molding. We have reduced the weight from 710kg to well under 500kg by utilising upto date materials and layup techniques (weight includes all, except engine and steering [dry weight]). Boat comes standard with 50Ltr bow tank and 2 x 20ltr keel tanks for balance adjustment, plus 26 gallon fuel tank. Keel tanks and new layup weight distribution will allow the running of 20" shafts with same handling of 15" shaft engines.

Cost of new boat with seats, tanks and crane lifting eyes is 7000 Euro (first 3 only....then 9000)

Comes in any colour you want, as long as its white!!!

Any interest call Adam or 00 356 99 873 509
euro)

Really pleased to see this project happening and great to see the good progress being made - getting near to the first new boat now!

This boat / design has always been a really important boat for me for many reasons.

The boat has also:
- won 2 National championships
- won 1 UKOBA championships
- won a heat of the World Championships
- 2nd in RMYC championships
- 3rd in Offshore 2000 championships

The boat was continually up-dated (design and build) by myself and my team over the years (whilst I raced her and with new owners) - however she did gain some weight as a result (was not that light to start with).

So going to be really interesting to see how Paul's version runs as they will be significantly lighter. Also Paul has certainly got a lot better hull finish than we managed to achieve.

It is quite possible that I will bring a boat into the UK if a sale goes through on one of my current boats - so there would be a demo / test boat around.

Are there any pictures of the Blackthunder here on BoatMad? I'm really curious. How was the performance?

I raced against that boat several times, the first time at the Europeans in Cowes against Adam and a few times afterwards, it was the only other boat that would give us a race in the rough and a bit more speed in the flat would have made it hard to beat over a season - great boat!

We competed very well against Pattern Forme in the rough and it was a bit faster in the flat against us in this:

They were some good times - and do miss the competition of 3C. Would love to see class 3 get back to strength again and some big fleets racing.

Was always impressed with pattern forme. Remember in the rib racing with the two litre fleet in Cardiff. Mick Archer pipped us to the post after some great racing in some very rough waters, after the line we had a ciggy and a bottle of water and started to have a little bet about which diesel rib would be next. We saw the spray in the distance and as the boat drew closer it was pattern forme a good 2 minutes ahead of the other ribs taking 3rd overall.

I think they may have done - we were using the latest "Gorilla" lifter from Stainless Marine - after we broke that they changed the design back to how they were before and we never broke another one - it sucks to be a test destructor sometimes!

Advance Notice

Will be interesting to see where all the powerboaters end up lodging in an area known as `God`s Waiting Room`.

As they say up there, it`s Harwich for the Continent, and Frinton for the incontinent.
