An interesting argument, but the density / bouyancy thing is I believe rubbish. boat will in theory float higher in salt, but at the same time, that heavier salt water is more reluctant to get out of the way.
Speaking purely from my / our own experience, we only ran as fast, if not faster on the lake, than we did in testing in Poole harbour on the salt.
My beleif is, there's so much bullshit dished out through out the racing season about top speeds, that the said racers need a good reason / excuse for their comparable lack lustre performance when 'timekeepers' are present at records week........result.... it's now a FACT that fresh water is 4% slower!!!...righto.
As I said...Bollocks.

Ok, for whizzer boats this could be debatable, but for craft with more wetted surface (you know the type, the ones that carry a snorkel for tricky sea conditions),then the above may have more of a bearing.
Ahem!

Did anyone see the Mythbusters episode where they swam in custard? The added resistance of the thicker liquid was cancelled out by the extra thrust you get by paddling in it, and the average guy was the same speed as regular water... Any difference on the lake would be miniscule surely?
Anyways, are they any interesting boats hitting the lake?

CUV design Top Speed
Hello everybody,
Not to long ago I denied a certain CUV hull designs top speed.
I was called 'sunshine' for not accepting it...
Actually when we decided for going to Coniston we knew that Fury was having all chances of beating us in the World record, but proving to pass this barrier several times with ease was all our motivation needed.
More so Cinzano felt rock stable the faster we went.
We might squeeze out a few Miles more bevor heading home tomorrow.
It would be easy if we could reduce weight by loosing a crew member, but Simon Woody Power has done that before at Cowes and was disqualified...
Dropping the liferaft is a New Sport since CTC2010, but might not be as populare amongst collegues as it is under Cowes Protest Committee officials...
So keep expectations low, please.
brgds from Coniston

You could probably have found another 10mph Marcus if two certain "heavy crew members" were left on shore for a couple of runs!!

Congrats Markus, Eric and Simon.
102.5mph is absolutely awesome!.....And is almost 10mph quicker than the Max speed achieved on the last leg of the Round Ireland Race back to Galway......Amazing!
How did the setup differ?
Drive height?
Props?......Did you use the 34 Herrings?
Fuel load?
???
Rgds

Mr.Sunshine hits the ton
Well done Markus, the old girl must have thought what lunatic is hammering me like this.I`m too old for tear arsing up lakes .
Some useless info for you.
A 36ft cigarette did a 73.8 mph race average in light conditions, yet did 88.0mph in practice, trimmed out and min fuel, with 1200hp petrols. This could equate to 81.3mph race average with 1450 hp.
Cinzano did a race average of 81.2 mph in light conditions with 1300 hp,which could equate to 85.5 mph race average with 1450 hp.Now add 19% to this (diff in 36ft average v practice) and it becomes 101.7 mph.
So your right up there doing 102.5 mph.I take it this is the av speed over two runs,so what would have been the very max on one run.
You mention how steady it was.I don`t suppose you fancy cutting the skegs off for more speed, for one shouldn`t swap ends on a lake.Pity you haven`t got shaft drive and rudders, you could always have gone out with min rudder blade. Is it possible to ditch the start up batteries once underway.
