That’s quite an impressive improvement, didn’t you used to do 63?
Is power and weight secret?

58mph in 2008

300hp (x2), 2900kg (as weighed yesterday)

First Steyr's were dyno'd at 227hp

more power, better props (labbed bravo's) nothing much else changed.

Next year, thru' transom exhausts (we're still 'squeezing' it out thru' prop at mo) and a few more hp, and some fettling......maybe 80

Fair point. My opinions were based on reading the responses from, I assume the real, Gina, combined with the misreporting of it in the press.

It's not trying 'to be' Bluebird, there's no BB name, logo or anything like that, and the polished nose (rather than the original blue) is to emphasise this.

Main frame is different,, and the alloy skin is welded rather than rivited, plus it houses a Burgess 'cell', so a modern take on BB. Same Briostol Orpheous motor Bluebird ran in its final guise.

I had the privilege of meeting Charles Morris who has built this (and owns it) and his son Sam, who along with the team are a great bunch, incredibly enthusiastic, and whilst this is a tribute to Campbell & Bluebird, the hope is to learn plenty about high speed water craft & gas turbines, in order to use that knowledge for something a lot more serious!

Quite spooky seeing this boat, on that slipway, at Pier Cottage, having seen so many pics of campbell there, and of course across the lake etc.

Check out the winch rope holding K777 up the slipway rails as he tickles the throttle...

Have you been keeping track of the restoration?

The work they are doing - particulary the attention to detail on repair and restoration of components rather than replacement - is nothing short of amazing. Would love to pay a visit to their workshop and see the progress first hand.

She (Gina) is involved with the restoration project & is fully supportive as I understand from the K7 website. There is a lot of vitriol from Bill Smith (renegadenemo on their forum) that I don't really get myself. I understand that this has, in some respects, stolen their thunder but theirs is the original K7 so nothing will ever change that. I think they should try to get some kind of apology from the Daily Mirror though for their miss-reporting that this replica was in fact the original.

The rebuild K7 is undergoing is nothing short of exceptional & the finished boat will be better than she was when she crashed with the majority of her aluminium being original. I read somewhere on their website that to date (this was possibly a year ago) they had only got enough scrap ali to fill two shoeboxes, very very impressive & commendable. I urge any of you with a passing interest to go to Bluebird project & waste a few hours trawling through it all.

I myself am involved, along with other CMBA members, with the original & first Bluebird boat, K3, that got the record in 1938 at 130ish mph. She was in the water for (we believe) the first time since then on Sept 20th this year. See CMBA forum post for a little more info & some pictures I posted there.

I man power, which is equal to 1/3hp and in the ( modified class ) due to the fact he'd had a power drink before the record attempt, so he wasn't standard

Kevin Hills crash wed 02-1-11

A sequence of images of Kevin Hills crash today can be viwed at the link below. Unfortunately due to very low light conditions focus was lost but I have posted anyway just to show what happened. Unbelievably the boat landed right way up to continue, albeit slowly, and he was only prevented from doing the return run by a marshal boat red flagging and blocking his way. He appeared to be OK, although I'm sure he will be sore tomorrow, and gave me a thumbs up as he passed by close in shore.

A ride up the lake..

For anyone who might be interested, here's a rear view from Swipes doing a run on Tuesday. it's a big file, so don't bother unless you're on a good connection. 11 mins total, and to be honest, not the best footage as the lens gets a few water blobs on it, but does show a bit of the beauty of Coniston Water.

Good enough resolution to view full screen if you wish.

A wise purchase from Coniston

Thought he only did 103 this time? As we were leaving he said 'that's us done, we're going home'.

As you're not gonna shout about it, I will......Vee & 'Garth' ran 108 point something average in FURY which I believe is a new 'B' record.

Sounded very very nice.
