Conniston date change

Just found this on their website.

* * * * Due to objections from certain local businesses supported by the National Park Authority and The National Trust, we have reluctantly agreed to move the 2007 event to the following week. This decision was forced upon us and was not taken lightly. It was felt that the possibility of losing the 2007 event completely was a worse option and therefore the change of date accepted. The dates are now 5th November to 9th November with set up on Sunday 4th November. These are still subject to the National Park Authority confirmation, though we have been informed that this should only be a formality. * * * * In taking this decision, we were reassured by the local businesses that, should people have already made accommodation bookings, that these would be rearranged for the following week wherever possible. * * * *

I can see the National Trust and the National Parks Authority complaining as a matter of course since they're idiots but what possible problems do "local businesses" have with the event. Maybe it keeps those high spending fell walkers away.

Maybe people attending should boycott local businesses as much as they can and then see how they feel about it! Im sure any such event is a small boost to the economy!

i know for a fact the pretty much every were i went people were please to see us, especially businesses.

you meet some really interesting people up there, for instance the was a guy who was particuarly interested in what i was doing as i was one of the only young competitors, he turned out to be a friend of donald campbell, he even has a genuine plack that was always inside any of the bluebird boats or cars which was given to him by donald himself, he had a christmas card from him, and a picture of them stood by the boat at coniston water. and every were i went in my race suit people would stop and talk to me and shake my hand and tell me how pleased they were that the records week was bought back to its true home.

its just a shame that theres some T****RS that try to spoil the event.
