Phone Steve Cole or Ben Ferris at Cowes Yacht Haven where all the race boats will be moored. If you book now you might just get into the South Basin!! Tel: 01983 299975.

Media accreditation

I would like to work out how many snappers & journalist's will want to use the Red Jet Start Boat for the Cowes 100 & the Cowes Torquay Cowes.

If you could kindly email me with your intent, It will give me an idea of numbers.

In May I will post a Media Accreditation form on the BPRC web site, you will need to email this to me (with your details), on approval a Red Funnel insurance indemnity form will be sent back to you.

When I have received the form, your Press Swing Pass will be sent to you by Royal Mail.

No media passes will be available at Cowes.

As per our discussion before Xmas at Drivers -

I had hoped Class 3 would want to race the Cowes Poole Cowes circuit ala '08 & '09.

They have chosen not to take this up, preferring a Gurnard based circuit on the Friday & Sunday.

I have had email from Honda racers who enjoyed last years CPC, and would like to do a basic race this year, with a similar format.

With that in mind - If potential competitors who want to see a Cowes Poole Cowes Basic race put on the calendar during the British Powerboat Festival 2010, please let me know >> email

Safety Boats.

Once again we are on the hunt for safety boats!

The BPRC have reserved 100 berths within the Cowes Yacht Haven from Wednesday 25th August until Monday 30th.

It is hoped that if funding is raised for the event, safety boats will have free mooring.

If you feel that you can help to look after our races during the festival, please email me your details, and I will pass them on to Amanda Raby - British Powerboat Festival 2010 Safety Officer.

OCRDA will be holding a Round of the OCR National Championship along with V24 in Torquay over the same weekend to keep the spectators amused on both Saturday & Sunday. As part of the 50th Aniversary celebrations.

Class 3 will be racing at Torquay and not at Cowes.

Sorry for error and any competitors that have booked accommodation.

Come to Torquay !! That way you can see not only C-T-C but also OCR, V24, & by the looks of it Class 3 as well !!
And I have no doubt that with some help from RTYC we will have a pretty good 50th anniversary Celebration as well.

Cowes Poole Cowes

Thank You to everyone that phoned me, emailed me in response to putting on a Cowes Poole Cowes basic race.

Subject to our OOD & Safety Officer agreement - This looks like a go.

It was great to hear your stories from last year!

I find the fact that the Class 3 fleet and the V24’s don’t want to support what is effectively the celebration of one of the greatest offshore powerboat races of all time very disappointing and disturbing.

Also there’s the fact that Class 3 and the V24’s didn’t want to run the traditional course of Cowes Poole Cowes because they didn’t want to go “offshore” and would rather race within the Solent, that’s a very sorry state of affairs. Does that mean that they wouldn’t go “Round The Island” if it came back?

There was a time, not very long ago, when the Class 3 fleet – 3B, 3C and 3D was massive and they ran offshore courses of 75 miles out in deep water with the rest of the other classes and I can recall when boats like John Moore’s and others (18/21ft whatever) spent three hours in very rough water just going round the IOW . The interesting thing is that the V24’s, reckoned to be excellent sea boats, now no longer want to go out to sea preferring inshore courses with a high degree of “rescue boats” standing by, what’s that all about?

Times change and so do people but I can’t help feeling disappointed in what is the lack of support from fellow clubs. So how can they expect the Marathon boats to support their races if they can’t do the same?

I was looking forward to mixing with ALL the other clubs and competitors at Cowes as in yesteryear and in 08 and 09 and for everyone to be having a great time because that’s what Cowes is going to be all about. Sadly self interest has reared it’s ugly head, once again, but that’s their loss, not ours.

Just my personal opinion which I would hope is still allowed. I think I shall now go and have a drink.
ML.

This is only my personal opinion but having a smaller course for the class 3 within the Solent that allows for spectators to actually see all the action close up is a better option. The course could still be 60-70 Nm of multiple different laps but would give the spectators good viewing while the marathon boats make there way back from Torquay. This also allows for possible sponsors to see what they are getting for their money rather than just the start and finish. I enjoy racing offshore courses but there has to be a mixture of both to satisfy the spectators and the racers.
