Yep,11hrs time limit at the finish (172nm)

198 statue miles ,172 nm (Cowes - Ventnor and back,then on to Torquay,via Skerries Buoy) Competitors will be disqualified if they fail to reach timing check points in the required time limit.

Lowest powered entrant - Blue Rain 21ft,2 x Perkins = 100hp (Marathon `Z` class ????)

Can you imagine attempting Lyme Bay as it was in 2010 in a 21ft boat with 100hp.

I think a lot of boats just started whatever to see how far they could get,and if it was rough,then that was unfortunate.

I only have the Programme, as sold to Joe Public for 1964/until the 1970's.
However, I have full race instrs for 1961/2/3, when race distance was typically 176 nautical miles (1963). These state that under Minimum Speed Requirements (Item 6 in 1963 race insts):

"Competitors will be disqualified if they fail to reach certain check points on the Cowes-Torquay course by the times stated below, adjusted as necessary in the event of the start being postponed:
Start - 1030; Prince Consort Buoy 1330; Branksome Chine 1500; Portland Bill 1630; Skerries Buoy 2000; Finish 2100. All earlier turning and safety boats will be withdrawn at these times ".

The start was scheduled for 1000 hrs.

There does not seem to be any mention in race instructions for 1961/2/3 as to when or where the prize giving would take place.
Certainly by 1964 I think, the Bollinger Goblet had been inaugurated for the race back to Cowes, which I think, using a direct course, started at about 1100 or 1200, on the Sunday.
That would allow prize giving to take place either in the evening, or earlier the following day of course.
I can check on this, with one or two who would know, but this will take time of course.

Judging by the first para in the PDF,it looks like prizegiving was just prior to the return on the day after the race.

That seems to be so Graham - that would allow for the late finishers the previous day, to be included as finishers, & prize giving could be "arranged" overnight/early Sunday am.
I remember Merinda Cundy's Blue Rain, built by Ernie Freezer on Hayling Is. & powered by two 4-108's.nominal 48 hp each !
Her parents had Willick, of just under 40' I think, & both raced, powered by Perkins.
