The still pics could have been taken from the video recordings, it was shown on Sky HD so the video cameras would have had to have been of the highest quality and the tapes could have been used to produce as many still images as needed.
Having said that, it sounds as though Chris Davies was the only person in a good position to relay ongoing race info, via text message or Twitter, from his viewpoint in the helicopter. Can't have been an easy day for him.

I really don't think still capture would replacate stuff from a 12mp SLR, and can you image the aggro trying to get that sorted, and the cost! (in time)
I personally don't think the odd shakey image, or small error matters that much, the main thing for the sport is that it made it to TV. A bit more could have been done in the edit maybe, but hey. dunno why they used my interview, We weren't even finishers, it would have made sense had they cashed in on that fact, but it's a small detail.
Lets hope next years event finds it's way to the TV too.

Not sure i should put down on paper what i thought of the film.
However i watched it down the pub and all the locals thought the boats were flying
Never mind scott and dorian always next year
Why try a local school production for next year

There's no point however in beating this to death. Everyone tried to do the best they could I guess and that's the end of the story. As I said earlier, the BPRC will try to do better for the 50th next year, with some forward planning this time.
Anyone interested in getting involved in such a huge and important project, which MUST be right next year, apply to John Moore. I know he will appreciate me saying that.

There's no doubt about it that Phantom 32 can fly and seems to handle those huge waves as though they were ripples. That hull design is something else. Not sure what it must have felt like to be taking those big hits though!

All in a days work if yer as young and fit as me....
Of course, it's different for the old fool Gilley. He suffers.
Might put an onboard camera on for the south coast marathon, as long as it gets my good side.

Were those your wife's sunglasses you were wearing in the interview
Ditto on all that has been said. Best shot's, imo, were SwipeWipes flying in the big swell and the beautiful sound of the ilmors being throttled.

DreamteamTV?
Have been filming the Honda series in the UK for years, probably the only TV production company with regular experience of filming racing from the air and shore- also they bring their own on boat kit and install it.....

Well, I'd be the first to admit that ours is far from the quickest boat in the world.

That interview
If the camera had panned out a bit it would have got Jon`s white stick in view as well. You`ve have to be half blind to drive like that.

I did offer to help but I was told it was all in hand. I've never heard of "Pit Lane" Productions. Nor had any of the people i work with. But I kept my mouth shut. Oh well. As for Steve Ancsell, He's a top bloke and used me to do one of my first ever broadcast camera jobs some 20 years ago. He was probably just passed the script to read by the producer, so don't shoot the messenger, so to speak. And thanks for point 4 Barry, yes I do and don't we all. Sorry Garmin won't be at drivers but Bolivia and a bloke called Jeremy is calling. You'll see the results on BBC 2 at Xmas. Then on Dave again and again and again.....

whoops!
Sorry, forget I wrote that, just been to the BPRC website where the DVD is for sale!!
I haven't seen the film yet I think that although it is a shame there are apparently some errors it is a major triumph to see the sport covered in this way and congratulations should be offered to the organisers for achieving this. The 2010 event will be a great opportunity to do an even better job, with such a broad spread of classes there will be sections to interest all areas of the media.
As a footnote 2 non-boating friends have rung today to say "'ere, we've just seen your boat on the telly, fantastic!" So the coverage is definitely getting out there.
All the best

Filming afloat
In the days before helmet cams etc,a sample of how it was done 40 odd years ago.
Note the guy behind the old fashion sportsnight type camera on it`s tripod ,fixed to the top of the FPB superstructure ,with the boat on a hard turn at 50kts doing a live broadcast.None of your flat screen tellies, more like a state of the art ECKO.
