Others who followed, like yourgoodselves, the rules as laid down, naturally stated that a DQ was the only option.
However, it leaves a race organiser, (any race organiser) in a cleft-stick in such circumstances.
One does not willingly upset competitors, but the rules are there, & if you avoid upset on one hand, you invoke upset x many times on the other !
I'm glad I was not on a protest jury !

I'm sure youre right Martin....about possibly upsetting Italian crews I mean....after all, when we go and race in Italy, we certainly dont get the smelly end of the stick with post race scrutineering...do we.... Ask some of the 3C crews...Richard and Paula White...Pete and Dave.....etc.
In any case...its done....some are happy...some are not....rules may have to be reworded to make it obvious that you actually need a liferaft at the end of a race and not just for scrutineering,.......and we move on.

Ah Blackmail!
I have tried to pick up my wife's six man liferaft and whilst it's not a big percentage of a boats weight it could enhance one's performance, but I believe that to be a red herring. Having got the RYA's opinion this afternoon they will be re wording the rule - to me it is clear that during the race means during the (whole) race or the rule becomes pointless - even if you have to anchor you have to bring it up rather than cut it loose otherwise people would be jettisoning gear everywhere - I even had someone make sure my extinguished hadn't gone off and my anchor rope was long enough once!
It's done now but I know it's left a funny taste in some peoples mouths!

Whilst of the same opinion as most others ie ... just does not seem right to allow the boat/crew a placing as has been shown in prior posts, if you lose some integral part of your kit, well the games up as you would say ....... However one could look at in another light, lets say the crew battled arduously like you all did in those nasty conditions and they had fought on even as the boat was beaten senseless loosing their tabs, broken tie bars broken drive parts etc, fuel sloshing around in the bilges and finally part of the deck ripped off, but hay they make it over the line and finally collapse over the wheel with exhaustion ... through no doubt most of offshore racings history these guys would of been hero's and deserved every accolade for their valiant efforts to gainer a placing, and I would doubt anyone would of begrudged them a placing either, but this sorry boat is now an extreme menace on the sea and in no way could pass any sort of scrutineering and I believe taken in this light the life raft seems to pale slightly
Sorry for the long winded description but I am sure you get the picture

..Assume then that it's now safe to show a bit missing from Uno's windscreen...
Hope you're ok Rob! Also pictured, Kera Koll not exactly weighed-down by an over-abundance of liferafts!
It looks as if it should have been in the (now empty) black box (quite highly visible to the crew, actually) up by the engine hatches...
Still, trouble-over-bridgewater.., bridge-over-troubled-water.., water-under-the-bridge (that's the one!!) now...

I now see what others have said - Yes, quite visable, assuming the crew turned round to look.

If FPT was to lose it's life raft there is no way they could see it was AWOL.

Graham,
You might have just hit on why the courses are being taken further out to sea...
To stop nosey b*gg*rs (that's beggars, by-the-way) like us taking "photographs that may later be used in evidence"...
Won't be allowed in the yacht haven soon!

How very dare you. That sort of thinking builds models to fool the riff raff a boat is finished, and anyway I had to blag my way into the yacht haven ,as a result of one of Mr.Ciao`s minions having a bad night and wasn`t on station when I arrived to hand out the prized passes.Fortunately Mr.Fuller rescued the situation with a personalized pass, that only he could dream up.

Well, yeah..
I keep watching "Honey I shrunk the kids" to get ideas... If I can make myself small enough to fit in the model....
Be quicker to invent such a machine than to finish that boat...
