Some of you may have seen the database error pages showing a couple of days back.
It seems we're had a bit of a SQL database cats-arse-strophy. One or two threads are currently 'missing' as a result. One being the Marathon Racing in 2009 thread in this section and another being the caption cometition thread in talking bollox. (there could be more, not sure)

Hopefully we'll be able to recover these threads in due course.

The TWG meeting took place one week ago.

And for those who enjoy subscribing to conspiracy theories, there's a danger you know even less about forums than you do about powerboat racing.

FYI, I've been working on recovering the lost Marathon thread for some days, they haven't been convieniently deleted as some less well informed 'fringe' bar room racers are suggesting. They were lost when the SQL database became corrupted, and a few threads that were 'active' at the time were not recovered when the tables were rebuilt.

My research into recovering them goes back a few days.

The Vbulletin community forums:

Now if those people dreaming things up and circulating their ramblings as fact would keep their ill informed noses out I would be very grateful.

I worked out than when you had your software problem the other night, things were going a little "Tits Up". I suspect that Matt also hosts the ORDA site on the same server?

I was informed the meeting for approval of the changes was this coming week, Rumor control is never a good thing to base anything on. FWIW Da rules will be what they are and a class will suit somewhere.

As the TWG has had the meeting (classic rumor control getting it wrong there) could you confirm the changes to C class engine limits & the revised speeds to classic class. I'm intrested not from a rambling rumor bar talk but from a position that would now make this class not eligible for the team. Would be nice to know. It's actually quite important for 3 teams thats all, not sticking my ill informed nose in. just a straight is it or isn't it. I dont care who came up with what or for what reason, none to intrested. Just what is the outcome?

Some threads do drop off the forum the joys of Vbulletin I know greg over at S&F had this happen as well.

I probably should not be posting this but here goes;

Jon and I are not the best of mates, but he kindly allowed me to post on here on the run up to the Round Britain Race.

Fuller has done his best to write a series of rules.

I would suspect that those rules were written out of good intention.

If the "Dark Forces" want to play politics, I know which side of the fence I am on.

Matt's server is the home of the media side of boatmad (media.boatmad.com) but the forum lives on JKs server, alongside RIBnet. And is constantly backed up.
For a complete meltdown, we'd be good to go. However, as this is just a couple of threads, and only really one of importance, restoring from backup has a problem. The backup file would not contain all other posts from after the backup point. (a single thread can't be inserted, it's all or nothing) Also, I'm assuming that as It's now been a few days since it happened, a fresh backup will exist (overwriting previous) reflecting the current status, ie, the thread in question aint there.
I've managed to retrieve some of the thread from Google cached files. Up to page 18 of 'Marathon racing in 2009'. But sadly Google has nothing cached after page 18 (13th March). Who knows, maybe they're in on the conspiracy too! What you reckon Pash?

You mean, once the problem was identified, the most recent backup wasn't saved off for safe keeping? That's a shame. If you have a full backup, I can restore the full DB backup onto my server and then create an extract selectively containing only missing records that need replacing.

No it wasn't, but as all but a handfull of threads seemed to be up & working within a couple of hours, I was pretty happy.
I hadn't actually noticed that a thread was missing until Mike Lloyd brought it to my attention in this thread, and to be honest, I hadn't reckoned on being accused of any conspiracies at that point.
Having once lost 'everything' on Boatmad, meaning we had to start over from scratch, losing a thread or two from 5 years of data didn't seem too bad a sitaution to me.
However, now we have such demanding, seasoned racers and politicians on board, who insist on, and are clearly entitled to answers, we at Boatmad.com will in future, obviously attempt to be more vigilent in the maintainance of any possible evidence, especialy where corruption is suspected.

BTW, for the record, if any corruption exists here (within the 'beautiful' sport), it doesn't lay at my doorstep. My conscience is completely clear.

Assume you checked with Johnny Rocket? I dunno what strategy his server uses, but you might find (especially as we went over a month end) that there's an archived tape copy somewhere that hasn't been overwritten.
On my server, it keeps local backups of the db on a regular basis, and just sends the most recent one to the backup server.
If you can get a copy back, I've got a fair degree of confidence the selected bits could be restored OK. Alternatively, let's all subscribe to the conspiracy theory......

Given recent events, and non conformity to protocol and the resulting issues, I think it's best if the rule book be presented by it's producer, the RYA.

It's feasable that at that point, it'll be the first time many will see the final details, including me.

There is a certain person who isn't quite as welcome as he used to be around here that is in the database business - not suggesting he is the cause, but he could be the cure - depends how much you want it sorted!

Sounds like you need less database experts and more backup and data recovery sperts.
