Spectator boats

The bit's where you see all the non race boats is between Hurst and North head(the muster area) when the Start boat has dropped the convoy flag, for the start run to Needles Faireway there are none on the racing line. I was the Rib making sure there was a clear run. Start boat is not allowed to go into procedure until that line is clear.

Cheers

norty yes sure thanks for that ,not much you can do about it any way!but as we started and saw the first flag go up and you then started to roll forward with the flag up , as we started to go (we were doing about 30mph ) a small rib came right across us from our port side ,we chopped the throttles totally to let him through, got going again then a another came right infront of us and we even missed seeing the second flag! Not complaining about the start procedure just amazed at how the spectator boats really got amongst all of us at the start!

Hi Chris, I think the problem for you, us and the others is when the Start boat does it's two slow runs accross the race fleet, everyone follows it, including the racers!! from where we were, about 1/2 mile from North Head between it and Fairway the Start Run was clear. However ther is always one who is not paying attention!

norty, yes know what you mean, yes sure you were well clear, as we came from muster you could see all the spec boats throttle up and push on over as you shot away in the distance, many thanks for doing the start though, those waves were just horrible at the start!

thanks neil great job, a hard one to , they were like flies everywhere ,did a torquay race earlier in the year at the first turn by the harbour ist lap was ok all clear and just enough room for the second lap we were faster so neede more room to turn got near to the turn and realised all the spectator boats had moved nearer to the turn giving us no option but to go around the back of them , that shocked them!!
