cors we did, don't you remember all the rows about how they measured the distance?

It was the race where we had the extra 30 litre tank, which leaked it's entire contents into the bilge during breifing.

Our speed over the 100 statute mile race was higher than the round the island bit, as Southamptom water was very calm. just under 70 (like 69.7 or summat) average for the race, but 67 for the RTI.

I refused to pay the rya ratification fee, coz it wasn't for the speed we actually did.....we won the argument in the end, and they changed it.

Oh yeh, I remember that race now, hung the boat out really loose on Southampton water, and beat Pete L by about 3 feet!

Speed Records

Sorry Tony, I will add you initial the next time I update the listing. If you would like to post the technical details regarding the make of boat and engine I will also include this. This also goes for the any other records listed.

Does anybody know the whereabouts of Mike Bellamy (HTS) who set numerous records at Windermere in the early 70's?

The full list of historical British speed records are now posted at www.conistonpowerboatrecords.co.uk

Mike, you can contact Mike Bellamy on 01273 410025 (that's lancing marine's number)

With respect to TD and I's record/boat details, It was a 26 Extreme with a Mercruiser 502 EFI (600hp factory works engine, apparently!!) (ignore that last bit, it's bollox)

The Original HTS went on to be Apache which is now in Basildon.
Pretty much shot to bits by the time it won the class II worlds & slipped into retirement.
(HTS= Hilton Transport Services had the yard under the arches south side of Vauxhuall Bridge, long gone now)

The main reason for the new slower records in 3D is that in about '90, or '91, remote water pickups were banned from class III in an effort to reduce speeds for safety reasons, and everyone had to lower the motors quite considerably to pick up water, even with the then new-ish CLE's.

Remember all this happened shortly after Richard Strutton & Brass Wilcockson's accident at Allhallows, where sadly Brass was killed. There was a lot of focus on safety after that.

Geoff Purves held it at 100.24mph with remote pickups, then went back and ran 94mph for the new record.
