I am Don Shead's nephew. I recall Kermit very well, a big almost flat decked sports fisherman with Issotta Fraschini W16 engines if I rememeber correctly. She was pretty quick; when the class 1 Worlds were in Poole and Cowes, (1981?), we followed Ted Toleman and Smitty off Anvil Point whilst they were leading and we ran side by side in a big sea ! When new she was pretty revolutionary being so big and so fast.
Don leads a pretty quiet life now, retired, he lives near to Stockbridge in Hampshire. Unfortunately he is not really one for history and doesn't care much now for the boating world, cars and planes are his current interests.
The last time that he attended a powerboat race was Cowes for the 50th anniversary. SIMON
