Norman Taylor needs a winge bypass and I'm not sure medical science is that far advanced yet. Would rather see Rob Beakhust and his team at the scrutineering helm, or failing that, some new blood.

Would like to see both of them and Peter Atlee with some young engineers learning the trade

Well I guess he has an advantage over TF there, as TF hadn't organised any cranes, or anything, with just a few weeks to go before RB!
He could have slept all he liked without it making any difference.

Gordon pulled it out of the hat at late notice, he's an excellent crane driver himself and knows how to make it happen, safely.

Sadly, Gordons taste in boats is not up to the same standard as his crane credentials, so yes, he still has a rib.

if its in the region of 70-90 miles then I suppose for even the "fast pleasure" type stuff that may want to enter its only approx an hour and a halfs running (or so) @ WOT. So prolly very easily doable for most.

Regarding either Poole or Cowes to Cherbourg - why not go for a triangular course, starting at either Cowes or Poole, which ever can be tempted to offer the 'best deal/facilities', with (if say, a Cowes start), race from Cowes or Hurst to Cherbourg, then to Poole, & back along the coast to Cowes.
This could equally work based in Poole, or even Weymouth, any 'turn' at the Cowes end being in the North Head Buoy area.
I agree with John's comment that 'we' cannot expect Mike L to run everything.
I belive he will continue with the CTC race, but new/other organisers will be needed if a series of such races are to be run.

He has "rebooted" offshore.

I suspect having worked with him on the RB, retirement and mowing the lawn is not an option.

If he doesn't do the above we will have to read his second book, and trust me the first was hard reading.

Amazing day at the Boat Show today, so many contestants from the RB08 there that we never had time to see any boats or anything. Great to meet so many crews and talk over their experiences from those crazy days in June. And all done at the Guinness Bar!!

Anyone interested in a 4 island race, anytime that suits next year. Islands would be Sicily, Gozo, Comino & Malta.........4 day race......5/600 mile race......accomodation in Malta for all could more than likely be sorted for zero cost, same for cranes. Just a thought, but real offshore racing in a nice climate. Opinions pls

OK guys, thought I'd drag this one to the top.

Just had a conversation with Bob Eddings from the RMYC and it's prompted me to bring this thread up to date.

We're now looking really very firm for a Poole-Cherbourg-Poole run in May (date to be confirmed), A possible overseas endurance (proper long one) in June, but can't say any more about that just now. A return of the RMYC 'Needles Trophy' event in August, Cowes in late August, and a UKOBA endurance event in September. Now even if you take the possible overseas event out of the equasion, that's a pretty full calender, especially when you condider these boats are also suitable for Poker Runs, and general hoolying around, so there really shouldn't be any boats sitting around with nowt to do, at least not through a lack of events to take part in.

A few years back, for me at least, the real highlight of the racing season was the trio of 'Needles Trophy', 'Cowes Classic' and 'Guernsey Offshore' which all ran pretty much back to back, so much so, that the various overseas competitors would bring their boats over and do the three events, then return home, bloody marvelous! Although Guernsey isn't on the list now, we do have the proposed UKOBA event, and , you never know, maybe at some point someone on that wee channel island could ressurect what was for me, the most exciting & glamourous of the lot. Twood be good to see the Guernsey Gold Cup back out in the daylight.

Could not agree more from a teenager onwards these 3 events were my favourite and adding them in between the Cancer research and the late September RMYC run Bournemouth bay event it seemed like one long summer of boat racing and sometimes I marshalled and sometimes not, OH happy days back then

Eric and I remember these events sooooooooooo well it was great fun and everyone got on with everyone else. My Mum and Dad were always there with tea and bacon sarnies in their camper and the odd G and T!

The answer to when the date of 2009 CTC Race is always easy - August Bank Holiday w/end - in 2009 that will be: w/end of 28 - 31 August.
