So you want to delete minimum weight from class 4, and keep unlimited length?

When the minimum weight rule was discussed in early meetings, it was there to try and stop people building silly light boats that would break. Not really as an effort to stop people building fast boats. We figured there are plenty of people who can build a light boat, but very few who can build a light boat that'll go the distance in a race like RB, in other words, it was to save a few people from themselves. As it turns out, RB08 wasn't a very punishing race, but it could have been a whole lot different, then the rule may have come into play.

So, If someone wants to race a flimsy little boat, bring it on, this one is only a 'dash' compared to what RB 'could' have been.

We're praying for some shocking weather and an OOD who aint scared to say go.

Have the Goldfish 29 boys entered?...has anyone contacted them?...We have some unfinished business with them!

One thing at a time!

Are you happy to enter class 4 without the weight rule?

Would loved to have seen them at Cowes - not sure that the marketing was the same as the RB.

Subject: Cowes Torquay Cowes and Cowes Peverill Cowes - ENTRIES

Dear All

URGENT

We need entries for the CTC and the CPC. Please send attached flyer to anyone with a race boat, and preferably enter the race yourself. There are different categories for everyone of all shapes, sizes, speeds and lengths plus a great package and entertainments for all entrants.

BUT.... if we don't get the entries up, we will lose this race and you all know the connotations of that happening.

Please, all hands to the mill if you love this sport.

Laura Levi
Sec. BPRC

If they weren't so intent on shooting themselves in the foot maybe they would get more entries! I am beginning to resent being excluded and then told it's my fault for not entering that the race won't run!

But it will be your fault.
It is unfortunate that you were deemed not good enough to enter when times were good.
You are still not good enough to run the CTC, but you should pay and enter to do the CPC - for the good of the sport.

Why are you excluded? I thought it was pretty much a free for all now for the CTC, as long as you can do the distance (obviously you'll need to learn not to break things )

Fitting an extra engine and a liferaft to my boat isn't an option in reality, and I would be up against bigger boats with almost double the horsepower - as I said at the beginning when it was announced - what about the National Classes? We have had the single engined Rib class run many times without either of these items in the past without any problems at all, sadly our race boat does fit the RB4 class, but unless it was totally flat it would be totally outclassed by the bigger more powerful boats.

Unfortunately for me the only time I was eligible to run in the Cowes Torquay it was cancelled after we had made it to the muster area - never mind!

Just received this email, very sad news.

Good Evening,
It is with regret that I write to inform you that next month’s Cowes-Torquay-Cowes endurance race and the shorter Cowes-Peveril-Cowes race have today been cancelled.
A disappointing response from the UK boating community has resulted in a low number of entries and, despite extending the deadline by one week, the final outcome will not enable us to deliver a genuine and competitive sporting spectacle.
In addition, a race of this nature requires significant investment and Powerboat P1 - along with the other race organisers, the British Powerboat Racing Club and the Royal Yachting Association - agreed that at least 40 entries were needed to justify the six-figure event costs. Unfortunately, the number of entries has made the event economically unviable.
Please be assured that your entry fee will be returned to you as a matter of priority. Our finance department will be in touch with you shortly to organise the refund.
I would like to personally thank you for your support and commitment and assure you that this decision was not taken lightly. The Cowes Torquay Cowes is a race we were proud to be resurrecting and we were looking forward to making it a great success. I am sure that you will share in our disappointment, but understand why we have been forced to take this decision.
Sincerely,

Jim O’Toole

That's bad news.
Do we know how many boats short of the magic 40 actually entered?

That really is bad news for offshore in the UK was looking forward to the I.O.W as I do every year, cant blame Powerboat P1 for this if it was not viable it wasn't viable they gave it their best shot, perhaps the RM can be persuaded to bring back the Basic end of year race (September) normally in Bournemouth Bay that has run for many years in the past, that is until last year when it was canceled for again lack of entries
