Flashing Red Light For Ctc

It looks like the 2008 Cowes-Torquay-Cowes race coiuld be in doubt unless a few more competitors step up to the plate. Since its demise offshore racers have been pleading for its return as the CTC was the only truly historic race left in the UK. However despite Powerboat P1 pledging a large sum of money to revive the event, the entry list is abysmal and if more entries are not forthcoming within the next few days, P1 could decide to pull the plug.

Sadly they haven't included the national classes - by using the RB08 rules I would have to carry an extra engine and a liferaft, I would also be up against 500hp and bigger boats. Whilst I would have loved to take part I don't turn up to finish flat last! I did mention this ages ago and it was ignored so there you are!

And then went out of their way to antagonise some entrants!

They have 100% definate lost one V24 as an entrant - and I was going to pay their entry fee so it was going to cost them nothing - thanks the organisers publishing that V24 boats were banned when they actually had not even made the decision - the driver/owner now simply cant be arsed to do the prep work required!

So I loose the only real competition I had in my class! Thanks guys.

I have entered CTC with re fuelling break in a V24.

Are you doing the same or going the full distance on on load of fuel?

If your are taking the break you might have a bit of competition after all

I was going to give the Cowes - Peveril - Cowes a go but having costed it out I wouldn't get much change out of £1,500

Entry + 2 Licences = £395
Crash Helmet + Lifejacket x 2 = £600
Fuel + Pre-Race Lift and Scrub up = £425

I am very disappointed as I really wanted to have a go, but I can't justify it for a little 50 mile canter out in my slow old Classic Cruiser.

Pity really....

Massive shame because if it does not happen this year then guess it won't be offered next year.

Where are the entries from P1 teams, especially british teams, Hustler etc. ?

OK,

IF you were to enter the V24 Club end of year event 'round the wrong way' which is a basic race around the IOW, your costs would be the following

Entry = £ 60
Licences = £120
Crash Helmet + Lifejacket x 2 = £600
Fuel + Pre-Race Lift and Scrub up = £425

Total cost say £1200.
Similar case - not much change....

That is without doubt the cheapest race event in 2008, so the question is not really that the organisers are pricing the event out of your reach, bet that your reach does not make it to racing.

Our end of year event is run at a loss( without any party, food, entertainment etc ) Just the paying for the RYA fees and officials travel etc we make a loss.

By my calculations, the CPC is only about 16% more expencive than the RTWW event we are running... And you are going to get mooring, party food etc thrown in.

I think the people that can complain are those who are being charged over bout £350 for entry. Personaly I would like to see lower entry fees, and our club does this - but the costs involved are huge.

Same reason RB only had one P1 entry in the end I expect.

I'm sure crash helmets and life jackets could be borrowed.

Yes as I pointed out the other day things are not good for Richard Carr
http://boatmad.com/forum/showthread.php?t=11452
Honeyparty may well have to pull out of P1 if things are as he says, and I must admit all this makes me feel uneasy there have been at least 10+ building firms I know around Poole that have gone since last year and although I am not in building the knock on effect will know doubt show up for me and many others in retail
