Of course there should always be safe racing as a priority over everything, what I meant wad there was already a couple of guys with yellow cards, and it was made clear that there's be no leeway at all. Anything viewed by the RYA guys as slightly dodgy (even a bit of chine walking) could be an immediate black flag with no appeals. the briefing was excruciating!

There were 4 P19s with 150 HOs racing, 2 P16s with 90 Etecs and a Ring 16 with 90 Etec that Pengs and Hutchy drove. 7 boats on a course just under a mile long I think, with a slightly different course for the smaller boats. We did 3 races, last in class in all of them but getting to grips with the boat at the end, didn't do badly at all considering the amount of time the other guys have had in them. Pengs and Hutchy drove really well, broke the trim on the first race and had to pull out but they fixed it, lifted the motor in the pits on Sunday morning and had a 2nd place in class I think. Unfortunately it was ruled as too rough for the kids to go out and race in their 12ft Sorcerers with 25hp motors, but they signed off and went and have a play. They looked like awesome fun, wish I had something like that when I was their age!

Eh?

Steve Curtis got beat by the kids class?

As said in previous posts at long last our 2011 finals took place. After alot of persistant nagging to the RYA by Denis Swann we were given permission to hold our finals subject to some restrictions. This was under the watchful eye of John Puddifoot as commissioner and Steve Gallienne as OOD. The restrictions were (1) We were not allowed any pit laps (2) There were two separate chicanes for the two different classes racing within the same race, one within the other (3) The more powerful boats had to overtake on the outside of the lower hp boats. Our drivers took these changes within their stride along with the weather which wasn't on our side with the wind blowing steadily all weekend. Unfortunately the junior classes never got out on the water to race, but hopefully the RYA will take the positive adult races back to their safety review and the sport as a whole can move positively into 2012.

Wish we were aloud to finishing our season off!!! Surely if racing is suspended on safety grounds it should apply to everyone??

I wouldn't take it personally. Our meeting was very closely observed by the RYA and hopefully what they take away from it will benefit all clubs in the safety review. As a club we are commited to moving the sport forward in general for everybody.

Just out of interest, how many of you guys having a moan actually even asked to organise a race after the suspension this year?
In fact, with the exception of Cookee who is helping greatly, how many of you have tried to help this review in any way??

James

The rule you have in mind is "boats on the longer course overtake outside of boats on the smaller course"

Sounds like a recipe for disaster on a large scale to me! If I understand correctly the two classes would be joining back into the course at different points?

Chicane isn't really the right term. Halfway down the start/finish straight there were 2 turn buoys, 1 just inside the line between the 2 turns, and one about 20m inside that. The bigger hp boats took the outer buoy to starboard, and the smaller boats took the inner one to starboard, effectively making their straight longer and therefore easier for the bigger boats to pass them before the next turn. When there was any convergence the smaller boats were already on the inside line for the turn, and the bigger boats had to go round the outside anyway.

The smaller class took the blue line.

What benfit would that have been? with exception of the Guernsey races on similar classes were effected this season as by chance we still had one round and a finals to hold and I wouldn't expect you to enjoy 'clock racing' no more than anyone else?, anyway at least one other club knew as it was good to see Bob there too.

I think you'll find it's the ability to race during a ban!
