Getting Together 2008
When I began organising the OCRDA Teignmouth 2007 event last september I asked several clubs (not ORDA as they were racing in Guernsey)if they would like to attend as it was on May bank holiday weekend and I wanted to make it a spectacular Powerboat GrandPrix.
I was informed by one club they didnt want to race with us,another said yes but when i contacted them with a draft timetable etc,i received no response and another said it all depends on if we can get back from Portugal in time.
In the end the event took place with the OCRDA national rounds and a basic race.
From what i can see the clubs really do need to pull together and put on combined events for both financial and spectatoral reasons
I am now in the process of organising the Teignmouth event 2008 and would like to know which clubs if any are willing to attend.
The proposed date is Bank Holiday Weekend end of August 2008.
Im willing to do all the necessary legwork etc, paperwork, booking of officials, safety and their accomodation if you are willing to attend.
Please PM me if you have any questions

HI, just to let you know it will clash with the 40th Anniversary of the Cowes/Torquay/Cowes.. I understand a lot of the RB boys will do the run to Torquay and back.
Possibly might affect what sounds like a great event down there!.
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news

Great idea, but a bit confusing. Cowes Bank Holiday weekend is the biggest in offshore racing.

I dont think it would be fair for me to do that,so i wont sorry.
There is always a chance of moving the date if enough clubs show interest in joining in.Nothing is set in stone as of yet,it is only a proposed date just to get some feedback

I think the clubs need to talk to each other to organise the correct gaps between races. Sometimes we sit for 5 weeks, then there is a national every other week, then a long wait again!
Also there are bound to be set in stone dates like the P1 Cowes event, which we can not really move, so planning something to clash with that event may not be a good idea.

We have some fairly regular dates now and have come through the mist and are pleased to be preparing a joint event with OCRDA at Dover this year. We didn't feel able to do this until recently and have welcomed the support when planning this one.
As one of the smaller clubs we appreciate the help received from the authorities at Ramsgate, Cardiff and Dover plus the club support from AYC etc without such we would not be able to keep things going too.
I feel there are lots of good thoughts going on here and that next season needs to be achievable, i.e. events with enough gap between to allow for recooperation yet not too long teams lose interest. Looking forward to 2008 now and have some idea of dates from the regular sources....

After much discussion (a couple of e-mails )
it has been decided that rather than clash with cowes the OCRDA event could be held on Bank Holiday weekend 24th 25th and 26th May 2008.
Is anyone interested, please let us know, and lets make it an event to remember, the more the merrier as they say.

At the CC meeting yesterday, Brian Peedel was going to be the central contact point for the organisation of the events for 2008. The idea is basically that there is a suitable gap between each National race event, and that there are not two BASIC events on at the same time.
