Guernsey 2011

I've noticed a lot of talk lately about how little racing there is in 2011 so we've done our best to change that for you all.
2010 has been a great year for us in Guernsey with 10+ locals racing in a wide range of boats. Going into 2011, I'd like to make our series more accessible to those of you in the UK and european racers too.

Attached at the bottom, we've got a great calender of events at least once a month, with some races back to back over one weekend to allow those having to travel over to get maximum value for their money. That said, should you wish to leave your boat in the island between any of the races, we can offer free safe storage for you. All races are 'club' races open to any boat. Our current class structure is done by HP, but is flexible to allow the GPA committee to ensure all racing is as close and fair as possible so everyone has a great chance at winning!

The races are run over a range of courses, an example of which are shown below. These courses encapsulate just what a fine venue Guernsey is for true offshore powerboat racing, taking in some some fantastic scenery on the way! Where else in the world can you race tight gaps barely big enough for boats side by side between two islands?

As if these 10 great club races weren't enough for the season, I've made it my personal goal to bring back the 'Guernsey Powerboat Week' in September 2011.
Myself and the fine GPA committee, with the assistance of the 'Guernsey Offshore' godfathers who organised such amazing class 1 racing over the powerboat week, will be organising a Marathon event including a long distance endurance leg from the UK to Guernsey as race 1, followed by a second race around the islands of Guernsey, Sark and Herm, to include the world famous 'Guillot Passage' between the isles of Sark and Brechou.
For those who own classic racers, this gives an amazing oppertunity to experience the courses run by those boats in the 80's and 90's. For those with newly built boats, now's a great time to experience it for the first time!
I'll go into more detail about this event in more detail on a seperate thread.

So... If you want a great series to race in, at one of the best locations in the world, impeccibly organised, great hospitality and close to home, come back to Guernsey, the home of offshore powerboat racing. I will do anything I possibly can to help anyone who would like to come across. Don't forget, we get a great rate on race licences too, only £250 in 2010!!

Should you be genuinely interested in joining us for any or all of our series in 2011, please get in touch with me either here, by phone on 07781 122 363, or via email at larbys@live.co.uk, I'd be delighted to hear from you and it'll help us sort out our numbers for the year.

Everyone's quick to moan there's not much going on any more, lets not see this fantastic oppertunity die after just one year due to a lack of support!

All the best,

James Larbalestier
Chairman, GPA

Excellent news!

If anyone is in need of a hull then Crusher Destroyer is up for grabs, only after a few hundred quid to cover what I've spent on paint and materials. We'll be rigging Jack's old R21c, no excuses or laziness this time

Keep up the good work mate

Hiya, most races have been around 50NM over around 10-15 laps this year. That said, we had kept to the smaller courses as we only had around 10 boats on the line and wanted to keep it interesting for spectators.
Courses such as Ferriere, Lowerheads etc are much longer 'true' offshore courses which we would be delighted to run with a few more boats or bigger craft on the start line. If that's what people want, that's what they'll get!

As for the Marathon courses, they're over 100NM each.

Cheers, James
