"Heart Class" Honda - POSITIVE ;-)

The idea is simple:

Each team dedicates free boat title to a charity of their choice. The Charity are offered up X amount of auction prizes per season. This they then do at their events such "The DebRA Frank Warren Fight Night" or Golf Day's etc. This, from my experience has raised 1000s for my chosen charity DebRA in the past.

Then we co-ordinate and bring the charity rides perhaps in a combined fun day or even around an event linked with OCR/ORDA combined events.

If training could be provided then perhaps some may enter a race as navigator (Chris Howes bid £4250 at a function to race with me in Liverpool Race 1 -2007)

This gets people not normally associated with powerboat racing involved. Most of these people are often quite well off and generous in nature.

The charities then 'set up stall' at race events combined with local markets say? This is good for local economy and adds to the event. The press get involved as it is newsworthy - especially as the larger Charities often have dedicated PR teams.

So for those people with boats, despite the mis-match of engines (Bob McCarthy says we could handicap easily enough) now, why not support a concept of "Heart Class"?

I will enter 'DebRA' if others are prepared to join in and get some fun back into Honda racing!

That has to be better than seeing them rot away on Ebay!?

Rich

Great idea!
Did this over a couple of years with Sarah D, for the RNLI and raised some large amounts.
The Charity auction of an experience in the boat rallied interest wherever it was auctioned with one winner from Scotland coming down to Devon for their day and then supporting us in The Isle of Man.
I believe Shelly and Libby raised about 20k in one televised bid for CIN so I'm sure this would be received well if co ordinated.
I'm in! - Where's the catch?

I can't see anything but positive. I spoke with another Honda racer who has 2 boats and he said he liked the idea too. The important thing is to let the charity have say 4-5 auctions per season and what would be good is to co-ordinate it with the event holders e.g. Bob McCarthy and Co. That way it would support their efforts in creating a more powerful event. The important thing is to follow a standard Charity engagement process which we can wrok on. The boat is titled the charity name but any corporate sponsors (if any) contribute to perhaps the costs of running the team which still supports the charity indirectly - see what I mean? The charity gets money and publicity and we get the fun back into racing whilst serving a brilliant cause.

If you're in then so am I. I already have interest from Debra and Starlight and Drake Foundation in using our boat for experience rides in auctions at their events. But how much better would it be if the auction winners could become part of an event perhaps - not necessarily racing but as a demonstration combined with a parade etc? Who knows I bet there are loads of positive ideas out there in Boatmad land....

Bob, how would you run the handicap system...so it would encourage Honda racers (and others I guess...) in with differing engines?

OK I guess we can discuss this over a Barasti Beer But it would be great to get some racers back together, bury hatchets etc

Probably not the right place to ask the question but I will any way.

Has anyone any experience of running the Honda/Ring/Cougar/ whatever 21 fitted with a 200hp outboard - make not a problem? What speeds would it run at flat out?

I know how it handles, did Red Letter Days with Trailer Bloke for a couple of years back in 2006 but always thought it could do with some more power.
