Lightbulb Invitation to all UK racers...

Hi Everyone...

Not in an offensive way at all (I appreciate both sides of the argument) but it'd seem there isn't much hope of people doing a good season of racing in the UK right now.
Some are going abroad but that brings licence issues, so I'd like to make a suggestion...

Come to Guernsey.
I'm speaking to Condor and other shipping companies tomorrow with the aim of getting a good deal on shipping prices to bring across the UK racers who are already looking to join us.

The more of you there are, the cheaper it will be by far!

I'm not trying to get a new series going here so there's none of the issues currently ruining the UK scene. We've got an established, successful series we've built through hard work and commitment over the last 4 years with at least 15 boats racing this year. For once you're garenteed a great time!

The whole season (social events and all) are being filmed by a private film crew and it's now looking like the BBC will be filming too as one of their presenters is doing the commentary for us. This footage is already being covered by Powerboat & RIB Magazine and all other possibilities including all other publications, Channel 4, Men & Motors, Sky Sports, Local Media etc etc are being approached with an offer to have the footage for free. Teaser videos will be posted on YouTube throughout the season and the main production will be available to all, great for securing sponsors!!

If you want to take your boat back and forth it may cost a bit by the end of the season (though hopefully not too much), but I can offer free storage here in Guernsey at our GPA compound and will transport all boats to and from the events from the compound for you. This way you only pay one return shipping fee, just for the length of the boat as you don't need a car, for a whole season of races!!
In all reality, the cost of shipping is little more than a tank of fuel or two for most boats these days, so it's hardly the end of the world!

Better than foriegn events, you can race under any RYA licence under here so none of the usual hassle and extra licence fees!

Flights to and from Guernsey are cheap as chips usually so it won't cost much to come back and forth for the races and each weekend event includes two races and more partying than you can shake a stick at to ensure maximum value (and hangover!)

Fuel is cheap here at £1 a litre and the bigger the racing gets, the more chance I get of getting a fuel deal in place. Need race gear, new engine etc? Don't forget we don't pay VAT here so I can buy it all in for you at 20% less!

We're operating a handicap system this year based purely on average speed to ensure everyone competes on a level field no matter how experienced or wealthy! Every race will have cups for 1st, 2nd and 3rd place along with an award for fastest boat (just to keep everyone on their toes!)

Add to this, Guernsey continues to be surrounded by some of the best offshore racing waters in the world. None of this basic circuit around bobbers rubbish, we race around Islands and such!
June 3rd is seeing the return of the Herm Inner Race. The course for this has to be seen to be believed when you're over here, the chart just doesn't do it justice! Tight gaps you can barely race side by side through, almost touching herm harbour wall, around Islands you can usually walk to, this race has it all!
Every other course is unique and exciting with it's own prestigious trophy to be awarded at the end of the year as an added bonus!

Our organisation and safety continues to be amongst the best in the UK with clear race instructions and Course charts. Every race is attended by at least one paramedic on the water, supported by a minimum of two divers, medics, swimmers, first aiders and far more guard boats than racers!

I've attached our calendar for the year. Have a look and let me know by replying on here if you want to join us! I can guarentee it's racing as it used to be back in the day and you'll love it!!

Don't want to race? We've got our big poker run and the french cruise coming up too! It's only 70 miles or so to Guernsey so you can even drive here to join our fantastic social events and be in with a chance of winning the kitty! Our last one with only 7 boats (due to weather) still saw a £300 prize fund won!!
With fuel being cheap here too, you'll have a far easier time than usual fuelling your boat for the poker run and return trip!

So then, no excuses. If you genuinely want a great year's racing with amazing hospitality to boot and an active social scene, put a post below to let me know your interest and I'll see what I can offer!

Here's to a great year's racing!

James, as Poole is one of the ferry ports, how about trying to get a discount for your racers to come to Poole on the 26th & 27th May to enter our race.

I believe I can only get them shipped economically to and from Portsmouth, but I will definately see what I can do! If any guys do want to join you but can only get to portsmouth, would you be able to help with transport to save them having to pay for a car there and back?

I will say, not in a critical way at all, that with all the problems surrounding uk racing at the moment, not to mention the mud slinging on here etc, I'd be surprised to see many of the boys wanting to pay a load extra to do one uk race when they've got it all in their doorstep here. That said I want to see racing supported in every way possible so will do everything I can!

Thanks, James

Prices!

Finally got to Condor today to have a chat with the freight manager...

Following that meeting, I'm glad to say he's prepared to bring boats over for £205 each way, not a bad price!

I'm speaking to someone else tomorrow and it's looking like I'll be able to get that down to £150 but that'll be as low as it goes till we get some people starting to come over!

As mentioned, you need only bring the boat here and back once a year. We can store it in the compound safely for you, lock away all your gear and I'll bring it all to and from the races for you!

We're only a quick cheap flight away, so if you want to go boating at the weekend or do some testing, just pop over and enjoy boating in our amazing waters to Herm, Sark, Jersey or France! Herm is just 3 mins away and France is only 30 mins away!! With fuel at just £1 a litre or less (far less for diesel!) it's way cheaper than the UK too!

If there's any problems with your boat we can handle getting anything fixed, no doubt anyone over here will vouch for my abilites and I know people who do anything I can't.

Best of all, you're absolutely guarenteed an amazing full season of close racing with at least 15 other boats on courses like nothing else you've ever sen, prizes, TV coverage, afterparties, poker runs and major trophies to be won!

So what are you waiting for, the first race is less than 2 weeks away! Get over here and join us if you want to actually use your boat this season!!
We've got a training day on Friday 11th before the racing that weekend, so it's not a problem if you need to train up first too!

Get in touch with me on 07781 122 363 or preferably larbys@live.co.uk and I'll do everything I can to help you join in!

All the best,

James

Good news everyone!!

I've spoken to Condor again and now have the price down to £175 to bring boats across!

There's already a few teams coming over, the more who take advantage of the price the cheaper it'll get!!

Don't miss out, give me an email now and join an amazing series right on your doorstep!

Cheers, James

Flights

My oldest mate who has lived on your rock for 10 years or so tells me the cheapest return flights to Gatwick are £120.00 and if he has to book a next day return way over £180.00.

Any thoughts in doing a deal with Aurigny & Flybe?

Thanks for the flights & drinking tips!

Last time I drunk Breda over there (duration of days) was in 1986, thank goodness I could clean my teeth with some Chablis Premier Cru back at La Collinette!

That's boat and trailer but I'm sure we can get a preferential deal if you're coming with the boat. No need at all to bring the car as I'll do all the transporting once it's over here. On a 5x7 mile Island you don't need a car to get about!

I'll be speaking to Flybe, Aurigny and Blue Islands as soon as i have a chance with the hopes of getting a deal, but as Dutch said there are cheaper flights out there.

My biggest issue at the moment is time, this along with the racing itself is a monumental task for me and I didn't start work until 3 this afternoon once I had finished sorting things out, don't have the time to see airlines too just yet, there's only so much i can do before I get fired!!

James

Just a thought
If anyone was to bring a car and or boat make sure you fill up in Guernsey as there will be a significant saving compared to UK prices

No VAT on the island either or indeed sales tax

You can enjoy a quality three course meal just £12.50
