Especially with the rule changes that allow V24's in class 4!

Marc, you're at crossed purposes, Tim is talking about London>Monte-Carlo, not CTC (I think)

I don't believe it will ever run again @ £6 a gallon at todays money there won't be enough guys with the cash to make a decent mixed fleet.

I think J O'T gave a number to discuss this??
This is why I have looked at the classes for endurance/marathon and tried to stick to the minimum to get the most boats in !!
To many classes to much confusion and C/T/C is more to compete than to win being so Iconic......................enduarance anyone can win

I think we may have a big problem here.

When Mike Lloyd first announced a proposed "Round Britain" race in the later months of 2006, there were skeptics, but as we have seen the race now has over 51 entries.

Many "interested parties" wanted ML to hold the race back, due to the summer of 2008 being a big year of sport, (Olympics, Euro 2008 etc.) and run it in 2009.

It would now appear due to the "mess" in the money markets, the rising fuel prices and inflation in general will present a threat to future "big offshore" races.

I hate to be be negative, but I am looking forward to June, and doing everything I can to help the race - but I think it will be the last one I see.

I realy wish we could contain this till after RB08 as I do not want it causing any problems for M L, but many have said to me that if there are going to be long distance events then they are more prepared to "put to-gether" rigs or concider using their own boats now it's not a just one race and having to wait another 20+ years !!
The one concern that has been mentioned and it isn't the cost it is the time of L/MC so we are putting a 1/2 way 5 or 6 day break into allow for those who can only manage to be away from the "office" for 2 weeks at a time to get home (LAY OVER WILL BE SEVILLE) check on and deal with any problems and then come back the following w/e.
Also for those in anything other than out and out racers I am trying to put to-gether (arrive M C as summer school holidays start) a cruise back thru the canals of France arriving back in time for C/T/C so wives and kids can join Dad in M C and enjoy the hols cruising home !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Also the dads can go back to work and Mums ( who we all know are better drivers ) can bring the boat home in convoy..............no trailers or shipping needed...........

The idea is one Marathon every 3/4 years (drivers to decide) and every year (excluding the the biggee ) there would be a mini marathon.
Ideas are (and they are only ideas)
2009 1st week June Weymouth/West Country/Britany/Jersey/?/ Home.

2010 L/MC

2011 Round Ireland (yes N I tooooooooo)

2012 Round Scotland

2013 Uk to St Petersburgh and back !!!!!!!!!!!!

You tell me

Hopefully the fuel concerns/cost can be reduced by minimul entry fee in comparison............
If it is organised and kept as basic as possible and going to places that want us and no massive demands from RYA assuming they want this to be under their umbrella.
Also by going to places where they have lifting facilities and free or reduced berthing should help the cost come down plus accomadation for the "main" back up on fast cruiser also helps.
With to-days tecnology so much can be done from a mobile comand post providing entrants don't want to be premadonnas and actually want to have fun !!!!

www.londonmontecarlo.com

We are now putting or should I say JM is the site to-gether..
Classes up soon and some info too.

This will sound a bit of an odd way about but provisional FINISH date will be
June 22nd 2012....

It will be an event in to parts, but we are planning mini marathons in 09/10/11

I believe in the present climate trying to run this in 2010 0r 2011 will make it a non starter.

Any questions or input please cantact me by phone....

N.B. I/we reserve the right to refuse entry to any competitor or boat, without reason.

Nearly 3000 miles

TBC is the master of the race, I want over a million hits a month on the site, RB08 is hitting 850,000 and bearing in mind that no one is on a salary.
Perhaps P1 will pick me up for a bargain price!
