Marathon Final Race
So just to gauge interest:
IF there could be a Solent based race put on at short notice on say 16th October who would be up for it?
Nothing more than a thought at this stage, but there's no point in putting in the effort to stage one if there isn't any interest?
There are all these toys out there and no one seems to want to play with them anymore ?

You obviously had in mind the race that ML ran from DDB at Southampton a couple of years ago Simon.
Lets hope that such an event can be run - I will assist if there is anything I can do.

Find some money for a start! That race cost the BPRC a little over £3,500 and we only just made it with a donation of £1,000 from UKOBA! We ran it from the East Lepe Buoy to Portland Bill and Back which was a good blast for the lads (14 boats). Don't know if you would be allowed to run it from there again though although I can't see why not! It was a good Corinthian race - no frills or fancy's except for Gill's very tasty hog roast! The fleet looked great running down Southampton water out to the start at East Lepe.

Yep that was a good race,
I remember it being very flat apart from a wee bit bumpy at Portland,

Sounds intersting - depending on many things, courses, classes, day licences - may well race my RIB.
All the best with making it happen

16th October
Well, after 2 days in Dover, (don't ask), and being slightly incommunicado, yet again with a very few exceptions we don't have enough prior commitment.
John Moore spent all day Monday trying to drum up solid interest and there are a lot of ifs, buts and maybes.
He had a race admin team sorted and was starting to draft course approval docs.
So due to lack of commitment it is with regret that we have decided not to continue to try to arrange this event.
As I have been banging on about all year for people to put on races we need competitors to commit. John and I thought that we would approach it in the reverse, gauge interest and find a date that suited all, then organise a race but alas no.
Anyone got any other ideas?

Simon, Sad to hear that there is insufficient commitment for the race on 16th Oct. To leave it much beyond then is to invite a high risk of rough weather or gales maybe.
If this 'cancellation' does not jog people into action, then its sad.
However, with the economy / money supply not good, then maybe finances are affecting some entrants.
As Ray Bulman observed to me yesterday, we are in danger of reverting to where the sport started in 1961 - with just one race in a season !

Yea
When someone asks you to build fuel tanks for a race boat.
1: Build them
2: Build them to the size you promise
3: Deliver them within 3 months of the delivery date that you promise
4: Don't promise any other product what you have no intention of delivering.
5: buy or rig a boat youself to enter the race.
6:Put your money where your mouth is.

Doesn't really merit a reply, it's all in the past, no point in digging it up yet again.

Glad you agree it's all true.
Your also right it is well in the past and the only reason I have bought it up now is because a business man who is in the marine industry and not interested in racing would not understand the importance of rigging a race boat.
Getting pissed around for months from someone who now appears to be so passionate about the sport ain't right to me.
Not that many new racers around these days I wonder why.
