Marathon National Championship

So just chatting with Phil Payter and if you ignore classes and number of boats in each class this is how we believe a combined National Championship would look after Cowes:

Torquay:
1). Dean 400
2). Cinzano 360
3). PPG 324
4). Amarylis 292
5). Martin Lai 262
6). Gordon Compton 236
7).V Fury 213

Poole:
1). War Horse 400
2). Dean 360
3). Cinzano 324
4). Gordon 292

Cowes:
1). Cinzano 400
2). Martin Lai 360
3). Pippa 324
4). Nick Swipes 292
5). V Fury 236
6). PPG 213
7). Bob, Blue Absolute 191
8). Fugative 172
9). Gordon 156
10). Berretta140

TOTALS
1). Cinzano 1084
2). Dean 760
3). Gordon 684
4). Martin Lai 622, (2 boats!).
5). PPG 537
6). V Fury 449
7). Pippa 324
8). Swipes 292
9). Bob 191
10). Fugative 172
11). Berretta 140

Guess it proves that consistency pays off!
So if Dean races in Weymouth and wins and we don't finish he would be National Champion, all classes combined ...

Makes interesting reading Simon.
The rules unfortunatly have contributed to a situation where no Class E boats will appear at Weymouth, as it will not be in the interest of any of the 3 racers in that class.
Let us hope that Martin Lai & others will come out, as otherwise its not worth having a fourth race in the season, following Cowes.
My thoughts are that it might be better if Cowes were the final race in the four race series each year, as otherwise we could get repeats of what seems like happening this year.
I hope we have something good to see at Weymouth anyway.

Surely it'd be a shame to strip any other club of the chance to hold the Marathon finals? I'd still like to see them come to Guernsey in the future, but we'd be ruled out straight away of that were to happen. I know we for one can't just put on an event mid summer.

Sadly we are at the boat show in Southampton on that date so we wouldn't be there anyway.

James, I am the last to suggest stripping a club of any event.
Its the rules & dates that seem an issue here.
I was merely observing that, following Cowes, it seems that for some competitors, the rules mitigate that it is not in their interest to race at Weymouth.
A rather sad situation you will agree.
I get the immpression that after Cowes some competitors have already shut up shop for the season !
I was suggesting a more compacted time scale.
For instance, David Macey announced at The RYS Prize-giving, for the CTC/CPC Races, that while there will be a BPRC Race next year, he will not yet announce a date.
There are various options, not least for the BPRC to move away from the August BH., & maybe such a move would make use of start/finish at Cowes itself more likely.
If that were to happen, maybe UKOBA would like the August BH weekend.
That would then compact the season slightly, still being of four races.
Maybe others would like to put their views ?

Marathon Season

This is going to be a tricky one where you can't please everyone. With the RB12 many people may have had their fill of racing by the end of that.
The issue with Cowes is that the Bank Holiday weekend is always busy in the Solent and also the hotels and retailers in Cowes are tired after Cowes week. Many of us have had it as a diary fixture for 30 or more years.
The Cowes Tourist Board would probably like to extend the season so may like to have a Cowes race either early in the season or even a bit later.
So maybe another date does suite? How about a race about a month before the RB12 as a warm up, maybe another one in early September as as season closer !!! (Gluttons for punishment)
