Marathon Races

Hi All,

Doing me race diary at the moment for the year. Am I right in assuming that there are 6 rounds to the Marathon series and what was the decision on how many we can drop.

All the best

Dean

No Idea!

However the RMYC, BPRC & UKOBA have posted their details - Nothing from ORDA as yet?

I think the calendar should look like this:

May 6 - 8 : Plymouth

May 28: Torquay – Guernsey

June 18 - 19: Needles trophy

July 30 - 31: Harwich festival

August 25 - 29: Cowes – Torquay – World Cup

September 9 - 11: Guernsey Powerboat Festival

September 17 – 18: UKOBA South Coast Marathon

Not sure which ones are the official rounds and the RYA's calendar still isn't online?

Plymouth

Are there any more entrants for Plymouth, last time I looked there was only 5 ,not enought to run the race.
Assuming that there will be enought boats to run the race were abouts in Plmouth will the pits be,last time I was down there it was in the days of the Class 1,will it be in the same place.

As you say numbers are looking bleak !! I think we were up to 6 or 7 last count !! Will make a decision next weekend !!

Yes looks as though pits will be where C1 were.

It might just be a bit of a bleak year for Marathon as racers sell their existing boats and begin their search for bigger boats for the upcoming RB12 and Cowes to Monte-Carlo races. You can see this process on our web site and that's not showing the full picture, I know of at least three more boats that will be up for sale shortly. Then of course there are those "older" racers who have have hung up their helmets and called it a day such as Chris Strickland, John Puddifoot and Mike Deacon etc.

However, after the above two races there should be a stronger Marathon fleet as new blood arrives. We saw that after RB08 with Dean (Gibbs) and Marcus (Hendricks).

You seem to have missed your own event off? Is Harwich cancelled - I'm sure I saw it listed somewhere?

Sorry to hear of the retirements of 3 great names from the powerboating world.

Great to hear that new boats are being bought - lets hope Cookee, Hunton etc all benefit.

Whilst marathon would be most welcome at Plymouth we have not been asked by anyone to include them !! I dont think Harwich was ever an option for 2010!!

Marathon Races

As far as I know, as the rather reluctant " voice of Marathon" at the RYA there are to be races in Torquay, Poole, 2X Cowes, Weymouth and there was some indecision over Larby's Guernsey race?
I have had very few replies to my email about commitment and as to whether we should be able to drop a result.
John Puddifoot was looking into a possible hybrid points system with MArc Lamont, that has gone rather quiet. It would reward attendance at a race as well as finishing position and the number of boats beaten. I quite like the idea as it does mean that the more you turn up the better your chances and the larger the class the more potential points you can win.
So what is everyone going to do?
SIMON.

Can't speak for anyone else but we intend to do Torquay, Poole, Cowes and Weymouth.

I think the option of dropping an event is what has sunk Guernsey - are you saying it's not certain what it will be yet? Why can't a decision be made and stick to it? Why is it being discussed now? Surely this is too late in the year to be discussing this sort of thing?

That, in a nutshell, is exactly what killed Guernsey this year. How can we be expected to plan a major event when only 6 months before hand we still have no idea of the situation.

Marathon Entrants

We were down at Hamble Point Marina recently, & noted that in Swordsman Marine brokeridge adverts, Miss Daisy (H 747) was advertised for sale.
Might my namesake be looking for another boat possibly ?

Just a quick reminder that on Sept 24th, the second annual Don Aronow Memorial Around Long Island marathon will be held.

HORBA is working with Peters and May on the date, we moved it back one week, to make it easier for any boats running in the Cowes event to make it over here for this event.

This will be Dean's opportunity to see the actual Statue of Liberty in person this year.
