Minehead to Barry Docks

and back..

Today, as part of the RNLI fundraising festivities at Minehead, we set up the record for the Minehead to Barry Docks and back.

Josh's time was 26 minutes exactly for the round trip Average 70.4mph, and I sneaked in at 25min 14sec. It is supposed to be 30.5 miles round trip, so subject to confirmation, that was quite fast - 73.7 mph average for the trip.

We will be running a BASIC race at the same event in 2008, and the exact same course will be run and timed. The people at Minehead are very very friendly, and helpful, and we had the RNLI as safety!

thanks marc for coming up it was a really good day. The run was brill with good weather, which is unusual for our area of the world.

Will (c24) came up to nav for me, he was very good untill he ran us aground!!! "plenty of depth, plenty of depth" Bang...... "i think we hit the bottom"

It was nice to go somewhere and feel like they want you there. They are very interested in us being there in 2008.

Minehead

Josh - what are the facilities like at Minehead ?
Seems a good place, but is there space for boat trailers etc ?
The idea of a race at a new venue is great, & if its too rough we could go for a steam train ride !
Good luck with your plans.

You know what the C3 naviguessors are like.....

It was very very funny to see the Minehead organisers tow Josh's trailer into the mud. At that time there was no water to be seen. What exactly they hoped to achieve with the trailer? Perhaps a sudden freak wave?

I have photo's of the v24 all alone and sad in the mud, but I cant get them out of my mobile!!

Minehead will be a challenging place to run a large event from. I figure you could fit in around 16 boats at this time with the facilities I saw avalable. However - we are wanted there - and things can be organised. Many hands willing to help. At worst you could restrict entry to the first 16? Possibly 2008 we would not need to worry about the numbers anyway?

What I do know is that the town will ensure that everything needed will be in place. It is so strange to come accross an area where the basic premis is 'how can I solve your difficulty', rather than listing the thousands of reasons why something cant be done.

No - I dont do wet.
Thats why its a canopy boat.
Besides we had all those RNLI guys in the water already, seemed a shame not to use them.
Getting wet is for rib boats and those who dont have canopies!
