More mis-information

from the RYA.

Found this on their website, ref: The Round Britain...

"Neil (your instructor) was a successful entrant in the 1984 round Britain event and as such has gained a wealth of knowledge in endurance racing, logistics and the practicalities of entering such an event which will all be included in the race training".

From what I can remember, and it was a long time ago, Neil Holmes only did one leg of the race, as a back seat passenger, in Pete Armstrongs 28' Phantom.

Yeah, I think Neil was looking after the clockwork bits as shore team on 'BRUT', and sat in for the leg to Douglas, as Jan Armstrong had hurt her neck in the Lands End/Bristol Channel leg, but she got back in for the rest of the event.

Sure Neil could shed some light on it.

So, the fact that Neil ran the Brut 44 pit crew for RB84 isn't good enough for you? Surely he picked up on how to do it, quite well enough without actually being in the boat all the way round.

I thought the same when I saw the opening thread.

"What has Neil Holmes ever done in Powerboat Racing?"

I don't think anyone can doubt Neils ability, either racing or setting a boat up, but I would have to question his suitability of offering advice on an endurance event.

The way I remember it, he was the shore crew on the 84 rb, barely out of short trousers, and the majority of his racing has been outboard powered class 3 boats, so I doubt that he's ever done a 250 mile leg, let alone round britain.

Pete Armstrong would be an interesting man to talk to.

What make some of you so qualified to judge Neil Holmes knowledge and experience? How many of you have won 6 world championships, 4 national championships & 2 European championships?
How many of you were taught by Peter Bloomfield, the father of class III racing?
How many have developed ground breaking class II & III catamarans?
How many have developed one of the most sucessful fast RIBs, Revenger 27?
How many have been approved as offshore racing training schools?

I know that Tim Brand-Crombie has done none of these. Just a wingeing hanger on, who blagged his way into a couple of class I boats over 30 years ago.

Point one James we all know and respect Niel's racing history and this thread has been lighted hearted banter.....
So you chinless wonder take your head out your arse.
As for me I do not intend to list or get into blowing any trumpets, but will say I have never "blagged" a ride or ripped anyone off, it was my job end off.
Stick to what you know and keep pouring the gin

Peter Bloomfield showed me the way to run a cat, and at the age of 41 he is still my God!

Closed shop format is a thing of the past.

Believe it or not but some of the 84 competitors are still alive and they sat in there boats all the way round. i would like to gain some experience from those guys.

I would point out JAMES if you want to be pedantic............
Neil never won anything...........INFACT Neil and Jim, your father won everything.............and without JIm's nav skills nothing would have been won.............you see one person in an offshore boat never wins anything..........great navigation AND great driving WIN..
It's a team effort!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! something you might like to learn..
