Needles Trophy 2010

Lots of info going around about Harwich & Cowes - all very encouraging.

Haven't heard a peep lately about the Needles Trophy - only 2 weeks to go now. The event has International Marathon status, so....any news of who's entering? Is it still on?

Love the avatar,

Even our rocks over here are powerboat friendly, floated off minimal damage

Needles & Camden Tropht Races - RMYC

Looking forward to this meeting, a pre-view & run-up for Cowes two weeks later.
Hopefully some interesting boats have/will enter/ed the Needles Trophy Marathon Race.
I understand there is no commentary funding though, so I can have (another !) rest !
See you all on the Pier hopefully.

Thanks, I've been following that thread but it only shows an intention to race from 2 boats: Goldfish 36 and B28. Ray Bulman's article promotes the Needles event as a major warm-up to what will be the biggest Cowes festival in years and I'm sure the RMYC have put in a hell of an effort to get it set up. So who else is intending to enter? Even if they're unconfirmed entries - we all know boats may break in Harwich causing them the pull out of the Needles to prepare for Cowes.

It's a real shame too to learn there'll be no commentary. Yeah, money's tight but Martin: are you soooo expensive???

Commentary

Not to paraphrase "Are you being served", but I'm Free !
I never charge, Enjoy doing it!
No, the RMYC have to pay for hire of the equipment, & it is now not really practicle to use the end of B/mouth Pier, due to the funfair.
You can no longer get a caravan onto the pier, due to the posts etc at landward end !

Ahhh, I see. (Actually Martin I know you don't charge - didn't know about the obstructions onto the pier though).

There'll be lots of confused grockles wondering who's jollying about in the bay then!

One year, couple of years back, we did try carry-ing a "mobile" unit, plugging it into the pier electric supply, & doing the job in the open.
What a disaster ! Not a good idea, but we did try.
Lets hope theres something to see that weekend - more entries needed I hear !
Come on you racers - give Bob & his committee some support & enter.
Its two weeks before Cowes.

Smile Needles & Camden Tropy Races.

Happy to see e-mail from RMYC - Races are ON, despite worries about number of entries.
Entry is still open, if anyone wishes to race this Sunday (Class 3/b, to Marathon, plus basic race too) !!!
