I get scared when people shout at me..

I am very interested in coming out to play. I would love to see the initial ideas when you have them. If you need any help, I have some time at the moment...

IF YOU WANT TO RACE WITH MORE HP WERE DO YOU GO???

YOU CAN GO P1 BUT YOU WILL NEED TO LUG YOUR RIG ALL ROUND EUROPE RACE WITH SPEED LIMITS AND HAVE A LOT OF CASH .YOU CAN GO CLASS 1 BUT YOU WILL NEED A DEEP WALLET. SO IF YOU ARE LOOKING TO RACE IN A CLASS WITH UP TO 500HP OR UP 1000HP IN THE UK THIS MAY BE IT
K Class Thundercats, ZapCats, OCR 1ltr, 1.3 ltr, 1.8 ltr. Formula 200, Class 3 1.3ltr 2ltr,4ltr, 6ltr, class ii, Honda 150, 225, V24 P1, Class 1 or Ski Racing,

Thats 20+ classes without thinking too hard !! Divide that into maybe 200+ Racers & there you have it 10 in each class.
Maybe you could use your position within the RYA to bring some existing classes together rather than thinning them out !!

You're trying to mend something that ain't broke. Have a look at the UIM site (www.uimpowerboating.com) and check out the Tourism Class Sport S1 S2 & S3. You will probably find that will fill in your new class and will cover most of what you are trying to start. And, the rules are already there ready to rock and role it's just that no one here in the U.K. has been interested in this type of class over recent years due to the fact that Honda etc has virtually suffocated it. Well, that's my opinion. We used to have fleets of up to twenty at a time as JF will tell you and it was all great fun. Think of all the Rings and Phantoms that could come out and play! OCRDA could probably run it and to make it a real test you would need 75mile courses as we used to have, after all this IS offshore. You could still run the courses close to shore if you wanted.

Oldman the new class will be run by a new club set up to run the new class and yes you are right S1 S2 AND S3 do have rules in the UIM Pleasure Navigation rule book but this new class is for racing not tourism and will be open to all boats that can meet the min weight and rules with one or two engines. Tourism class is for twin engines boats only with cabins this new class is for all boats that want to race.

We did all this in 1981. Cruiser class became Production Class and P Dredge changed it to Tourism whatever that means. And as for only running twin engines that can't be right as several of us who ran Revengers ran single engines. Can't argue with you anymore as i am in airport catching a flight but whatever you do I wish you the best, the sport needs another class without a doubt and by the sound of it there are plenty of guys wanting to do it. Go for it.

I'd be interested in it, but before I built a £50k+ boat I'd want to be sure that there was going to be a decent fleet of boats out there! And that's where I think the main problem is going to be.

Both Honda and V24 (initially) were successful in finding buyers because someone stepped up and was seen to put their hand in their pocket, and start building the boats before there were any customers! It mean't that anyone considering the class could have a pretty high expectation that there was going to be competitors. As these were one design it was a pretty easy thing to do, although quite costly.

Since the Honda days, I have been approached on two seperate occasions to do the same thing again, with both (my) cats and mono's, albeit with somewhat less power than your talking about, the mono series had some quite big players involved, including an engine/drive supplier, and a large truck manufacturer, but on both occasions the deal didn't materialise because they weren't prepared to put any money up front.

I can see where your coming from Tony but Honda and V24 are 1 type racing this new concept is aimed at any boat that complies to the rules. The reason for this is allow anybody how has a boat with the kind of size engines and lenths we are talking about to come out racing in a new national class.

After more phone calls and emails than i ever thought possible, and many many very helpful ideas from people who would love to be involved

We have decided to change the Max H/P to 600 in the hotboat smaller class with the Min weight of 1500 Kilos this will enable the old class 3 6 litre boats to run their EFI etc and will we hope encourage the people with these boats to join the series.

Also it has been decided to lower the Power to weight ratio for the 1000H/P Class to 1 H/P for every 4 kilos, again this is we hope an encouragement for some of the many existing boats that may fit into this catogory.

To summerise

The hotboat 600 will be Min lenght 23 ft Min weight 1500 Kilos Max power 600 H/P

The hotboat 1000 will be Min Lentht 28ft Power to weight ratio 1 H/P per 4 kilos Max H/P 1000 at the prop
