New Class Of Racing Part 2
We have a lot of interested teams out there for this new class to date over 11 and that is in just 3 days and that is just the start we have made some head way with what size engines you guys want to run. So here is a update on the base rules for this new class.
Hotboat 1000 class min boat lenght 28 feet max 37 feet max power 1000 hp at the prop single or twin inboard or outboard power to weight ratio of 4 kilos per hp min crew per boat is 2 you can run canopy but must be 508 all safety gear will be as PB1
Hotboat 600 class min boat lenght 23 feet max 29 feet max power 600 hp at the prop twin or single inboard or outboard min weight 1500 kilos min crew 2 you can run canopy but must be 508 all safety gear will be as PB1
So if you wish to come out and join in this new class plase let me no and i can send you more info and lets put the power back in to power boat racing.

I know we're at the very early stages here, but personaly I think the minimum weight should be a tad higher, otherwise, as Matt has just pointed out, you'll build (by default) an outboard only class.
600 propshaft hp in a 1500kg boat, would be untouchable with a twin engine sterndrive boat of the same size, as it would be impossible to achieve the same power to weight.
I reckon an absolute minimum of 2000kg, mebbe more.
and forgetting the problem of getting boats competitive, a B28 type boat with 600hp of OB's would be doing a ton, pretty dangerous, the insurers wouldn't be impressed.

I don't know anything about the politics with the rya, but the idea of a simple class, that encourages boats that are less 'specialist' than the international class's (III & II & I) ie, boats the normal fella in the marina would reccognise as a boat, has to be a good thing. I just reckon it would need some sensible ruling from the outset to get a fairly level playing field for the variations on the theme of those types of craft, otherwise, overnight, it'll become a one-design class, as soon as the optimum boat-motor package is realised. ie, Mannerfelt 28/280 efi's or similar.
I also reckon canopies are probably not such a good idea, as the rquired safety coverage is greater??
back to basics??

At 1500kg i'd have to add weight, another cat at 29' who's interested is race ready at 1700kg.
If you make it 2000kg it will be monohull only racing.

If you allow 600hp, 1500kg cats, it'll be cat only racing.
A 30 Spectre or similar, with 300's, or 280EFI's would be tough to beat in all but the roughest of conditions with a mono, even a specialist mono like a B28.
This is exactly what I mean by these things needing sorting from the outset.

all Looks very exciting a new racing class, but I think if your going to allow up to 1000hp then it makes no sense in stopping there as there are no doubt many boats around with 2x525hp like all the american OSO boats then there are all the ex pro V boats diesel 1050hp, the 525hp engine appears a popular choice of engine and if you stop at 1000hp they will all be exluded. speeds even at 4kg per hp are likely to be 100+ as I believe ARPRO said they were going to break 90mph with 4.5kg, the oso boats 110+ at 3600kg, some of the diesel pro v boats must have been close to 4000kg and they ran 100+, so I would imagine if speeds are to be kept in check, P1 with there 4.5kg and not limited to 37ft seems a good place to start, just my 2penny worth as they say
going back along way I said I was against loading race boats like tankers but it's probably the only way around it

the current suggestion, defines rogers boat exactly as it was when racing in 'T' class, but with T class, you could only have 400hp of OB's, this leveled the playing field with respect to power to weight, in a very crued way, but it worked.

P25 with twin 200hp xr2's will run mid 70's, my old jetski would nearly hit 70 with 750cc turbo engine.
If you bring to many regulations and hp limits in no one will want to race, which is exactly whats happening now.

Maybe so, but lets face it there's loads of ex race boats lying around that don't fit into a race class now, they are just right for this class, mine included which was built for 4 litre racing.
