poor Jackie and Mikes hopes seem to be over they came in 3rd place today in Portimao, unless any appeals are upheld...British hopes now lie with Buzzi Bullet coming in 1st tomorrow and the Italian entry failing to finish

Offshore powerboat racing can be a bitch, as anyone here who has raced will confirm, that’s for sure. We have all been there. For Jackie & Mike to be checked at 35hp over the maximum for their engine (that is hear say at the moment) must just about have been the end after having had to finance their racing personally. If they are blameless in this instance, which I am sure they are, then I feel very sorry for them and they must just about be bumping along the bottom of life right now.
It’s no consolation to them for us to say that we feel real sorry for them, which we do of course, well I do. They have to pick themselves up from this and, using the modern expression which I hate but wears well in this instance, put it behind them and move on. There is always next year because that’s racing!

Just sticking my oar in.
Was the dyno calibrated & baselined prior to the test.
Modern dynos can +- quite a few hp depending on a number fudge factors, sorry corrections, needing to be input into the computer.

over a beer some years back with a group of friends, one of them was telling us about F1 technology and how they know every single thing the engine does and how much torque/power there is at what revs, what gear, what the valve gear is doing the list was endless...I have not asked him hows it done the guy still is in F1 with a major team if not a little tainted of late why can not this type of information be used in offshore engines while they race so teams know if there engine produces more or less hp this would avoid such a crushing blow as suffered by Mike and Jackie in this final race

I agree with Matt.
This exceeding of power to weight, by however much, or little, can only be applied if the dyno is calibrated (recently, or as recently as the rules require) in just the same way that you'd only believe the weight to be a true representation of things, as long as the load cell was up to date on calibration.
A lot hangs on this, when an international championship hangs on it, I'd want an indipendant dyno test, the moment mine failed on the P1 unit. after all, they only want it to be 1hp under (in fact, they want it 0.1hp under)
I guess you have to be happy (ish) for the Italian team now celebrating, even if they do have a boat from a bunch of short arse light brown wankers.

Not just a pretty face.
The trouble is a dyno really create a dial-a-disqualification unless it's operated under exceptionally strict conditions - certainly more so than you'd get out in the field.
Assume it's a propshaft dyno of some description - or was it engine out?

Thanks to everyone ... really appreciated!!
The Dyno came out at 547 ... so we were "apparently" 21kg under weight
We have asked for a new Dyno ... the previous one did not even have a calibration certificate!! We have appealed also.
Mightily pissed off as you can imagine ... but we will obviously fight the decision. Sadly we fell foul to some serious P1 politics, as previously dyno'd Evolution boats (e.g. OSG were 70 hp per engine over) only got weight added
We will of course come back next year, and fight on the water

That's the spirit and great news I am sure all on Boatmad hope after all your hard work over the last two seasons in promoting the sport, that a sponsor for next season is forthcoming

The final race report has been posted on the Extemeboat web site, as ever it makes an enlightening read...as matt pointed out the dyno report seems very vague and most likely inaccurate...when reading the final paragraph you can't help but feel the injustice of how P1 acted against this team, it does feel that P1 bosses had decided it would not be good for Extemeboat to win for a second season and therefore set in motion ways to penalise them laughably more than any other entrants

Dyno
one would have thought both boats should be re dynoed on the same dyno at the same time that must be the only fair way to do this

How about both engines, the other engine might be down on hp so all would be OK!
