Just after start...
From Hurst Narrows...
Apologies for the quality, only got a crappy little camera...
And an even smaller brain..! Still, it gives you a feel for the race.
The head-on in picture four looks like it's going to be nasty...

Return...
Some shots of the run to the finish.
My sincere thanks to Mike Bellamy and his charming wife Jeanette for making us so welcome aboard his superb Sunseeker.

it all happened so quickly i think my head hit the screen taking of my visor exposing my eye
all on the mend now except my damaged pride.

No issues for us, but as Barry says, too flat on the day. It is difficult to compare performance between boats when we are all in different classes:
Going Lean (Class A) V Cinzano (Class B)
Bandit (Class B) V Team 25 Racing (Class C)
From our perspective, we had a good race, no issues with the boat at all, just no opportunity to use our strength in the rougher water of previous races. We tried everything, but there was nothing more we could do. A little depressing watching Darren Hook (Relentless) trim up the motors in the flat and just drive away from us. Maybe next year it will be rougher...

Fun! should be a walk in the park in those conditions.
Bring on the big waves, then we'll have fun (assuming our 'motive power' plays ball)

It was a pleasure to have max onboard. Handy with the spanners too.
Just need to have some rougher water and then it will bring the boats closer together.
After 81 Nm there were only 2 mins between 4th and 6th

Good to hear that you are getting over the shock of that incident Bob.
Your wife looked pretty shocked in Race Control but she certainly did a fantastic job getting you back home safe. That must have been an "interesting" ride back across Poole Bay and up the Solent. I for one would like to hear the story some day.
We are pleased that it hasn't put you off. Speaking for the BPRC we all hope that you get well soon.
ML.

Guess it must be frustrating going as quick as the boat can go and not as quick as the elements allow your boat to go, but at least it does not appear to have bust up the boats and going by the times it seems it was pretty close racing all great for us spectators

Good to hear all is ok.
You mustn't let it damage your pride, everyone pushes things when racing, it's the name of the game. So if it didn't ever bite you one would have to assume you never 'push'. Just try not to let it put you off.
It's great to see someone move on to having a go at racing after a few Poker runs, Kind'a proves the PR's are a stepping stone for some.
Anyway, you've taken the King's Shilling, so 'you're in'! No getting out of it easily now.

Sorry Jon, forgot this one of Swipes going through (almost literally!) North Head... proof of passing on the correct side too... not that you need it!
Graham, saw one of the Braves up near Driver's - any idea which one? It's mentioned on here in a thread from 2005

Mystery Brave
It`s not one of the Braves, but another Brave type built at the same time for a greek. Was the fastest motor yacht in the world at the time.(50kts).
The guy who owned one of the spithead forts owned it.It hasn`t done many miles on the clock either.

It's 'Brave Challenger' ex-Mercury. As Graham says she was built for Stavros Niarchos and actually did 60 knots. The 2 ex-RN Braves were cut up long ago but there are 2 in Antwerp(ex-Danish RN), one of which I've tried to get involved in the next RB. Still working on it, you never know!
Brave Challenger is owned by Wensley Haydon-Baillie who was done by the SFO a few years back and lost most of his money. The word on the street is that he has a court case pending which will fund the restoration of BC to her former glory if he wins. She had 3 RR Proteus at 3,800hp each and did 60 knots but the Danish one has 3 at 4,800hp each!!
All the best
Jonathan

Oh no!,not another Marathon class.
One of those Danish FPB`s is preserved in Copenhagen I think.
That was my first job at Vospers, fitting bridge consoles to the Danish FPB`s.
