We should carry on this thread from here as BlueFin suggests.

Personally, for this event only, I would have thought that Cats could take part and within a month or two the Canopy situation should be resolved and from what I am hearing you will be allowed to run with your canopy on.

If it takes a similar format to the last run, then you'd be more than welcome, with or without any racing experience!

Some would flinch at me saying this but if you think you can make it fuel wise and can carry all the necessary safety equipment including a liferaft then again I can't see a problem. If you made Cherbourg and back safely then nobody would ever be able to say anything about V24's doing endurance races, sorry, long distance races, ever again. Don't forget, in this type of race you are on your own, there will be no safety boats out there in the Channel to help you if things go wrong and you would be 30 miles from anywhere in the middle. Mind you, that applies to any of the race boats of course. A bit of a daunting prospect for those not used to this type of of offshore racing.

Assuming it's run as a time trial like before, then as long as your not one of the last boats to leave, there'll always be ''another one along'' in a while!

Poole Cherbourg Poole Timed Trial

Just to confirm, this race has now been logged with the RYA for the first weekend in May 2009 (Bank Holiday) so as to avoid the clash with TBC.

We will start and finish from Poole. Starting on the Friday 1st May at 10.00am, all boats will run across the Channel to Cherbourg on a timed run hopefully 5 minutes apart and mustering off Poole Harbour Bouy (No 4) (if it is still there).

Friday night and Saturday will be spent recovering in the bars and restaurants in Cherbourg with a dinner on the Saturday evening at a secret location known only to Johnny Caulcutt!! Sunday we will run back as a Rally - yet to be decided at around 11am. I am asking the RMYC if they will host a dinner that evening for all participents in their club house. That's it basically. Entry fee costs yet to be decided after I hear from the RYA what they are going to charge for insurance (Calender fees) and after talks with Cherbourg.

This event will be run under the same rules as for Cowes Torquay Cowes 2008 with maybe one or two modifications.

Should be interesting to see if anyone can beat Mark Pascoe's time. No doubt JF will correct me but I think that he did it in less than an hour with JF just over the hour.

Mark did it in 52 mins, Tony Dowley was I think 62, and we were 66. However, in our defence (we reckon we should, in those conditions and with that boat) have been in the high 50 minute department, but the loss of a speed rail 5 miles in, necessitated the use of one trim tab all the way, killing our top speed.
It would be nice to crack the hour this time.

If it's flat, watch out for TD!! he'll be flying with those 300's!
