Poole-Cherbourg Challenge

It's looking more and more likely that this event will be ressurected for 2009 and beyond.

We're looking provisionaly at the bank holiday weekend at the end of May.

Possible formula is a combined race & record run across in the morning on day 1, overnight either at Cherbourg, or just along the coast somewhere. Then a rally back in company the following day.

For this, we will obviously need a load of entries, and also a couple of commitee / safety boats in the form of cruisers to sweep up the rear once their job as start boat has finished.

There could be some very big waves out there, so no noofters that only like it flat.

Any takers?

Hey Pash, where are you? You said that DB2 will be ready in May. Why not make Cherbourg your first run?

(Would be delighted to help point the way if you need crew)

re Poole (Cowes) Cherbourg and back.

I don't know how JF talked me into this but he has and that's after me saying emphatically that I would only be doing the CTC!

What I would like, but what you might want to do is another thing is, race across on the Friday as a timed trial at five minute intervals with our people waiting to time us in at Cherbourg, spend Saturday "resting in Cherbourg - that would include a dinner with everyone which should be fun" and race back as a full troupe (complete with hangovers) on the Sunday, weather permitting.

The only problem is that it has to be paid for somehow and that is what I will be working on over the coming months. Remember this is only theory at this point in time as we haven't talked to Cherbourg yet! So, what do you guys think, are you up for it?

Yep were in.

How about inviting any French offshore races over to meet on the Saturday.

Many years ago went to a fantastic restuarant i think called Va Bonne near the locks if any one else knows it

I feel this is gaining momentum on a daily basis. This is good!

A season opener for the endurance fleet (and a few other nobbers to boot)

Am quite looking forward to our meeting with the RYA now, as we need to bash out a few basic rules and requirements that will hopefully form the foundations for all future UK endurance events. With a motto of 'keep it simple', after all, that's always worked ok for chaos.

I think Ace & I could be up for this, on the provision that (a) we have the fuel range, (b) whatever boat it is... Ace gets map duty and (c) we're not the only pleasure boat doing it.

sounds excellent

In my experience then you should have 1 engine in and half a fuel system by then

I'd definately be up for this... depends on the pace of the 'race' there... I'd come across from guernsey beforehand, then when you all go back to blighty i'd simply nip down the coast to home!
Provided i have my new cat ready by then!

The trip over could be interesting!

Thought the BH was the weekend of the 31st May .....

Might have to increase production and revisit the Gant Chart for acceleration costs

Rules

Seeing as you are talking to the RYA on rules, what are the thoughts on Cats and canopies going forward - dont want to start the big debate again - just asking

Cats & Canopies

We are being bombarded with this question especially at the boat show.

Radical thinking is coming forward from what I hear so hold your horses for a month or two and this area will be sorted.

Frankly, all I want is as many boats as possible running whether they are canopy, cat or tri-hull. Guys just want to race and that's what we are working towards.
