Powerboats at the London Boat Show

We've got some very exciting developments coming through on the Cowes to Monte Carlo race over the coming months and we look forward to outlining these in detail at a later stage, probably at our Race Briefing in March. Part of our 'behind the scenes' work has involved forging a strong relationship with the British Marine Federation and we're delighted to be able to announce today that we'll be exhibiting in a prime location at the Tullet Prebon London Boat Show next month.

We've noticed that there doesn't appear to be any other powerboat racing presence at the show so we've decided to use this opportunity to not only tell visitors about our own race, but also about powerboat racing in general. Plus visitors will be able to get up close to a couple of current race boats. We're now asking if any racing organisers, or classes, have any literature, or message, they'd like a platform for at the show to get in touch. Similarly we'd be delighted if you want to come and help out on the stand to push the world of powerboat racing in front of the general public. Everyone is welcome - especially if you're buying the drinks!!

We had offered our boat for the show and even met one of the organisers at the London Top Gear Live show where he said they would love to have the boat there but the offer came far to late (last week) and we have now committed to attend the Autosport Show at the NEC which clashes - we would rather have been at the boat show!

Two World Speed Record Breakers – Nick’s “Swipewipes” and Vee’s “Microlink” Some of you may well remember the video with that incredible sound of Microlink coming down Coniston water and suddenly appearing. Will be running that at the show with a lot of other stuff.

"Star" is a bit of an exaggeration! Far more important people than myself will be appearing - see the timetable (Monday the 9th at 1655 if anyone wants to come and watch me make a fool of myself!

ps Anyone any good at Powerpoint?

Actually whilst not eligible for the World Record we could have beat them to the National record so they had some competition!

I dont recall Tom getting any records !!

Nothing wrong with establishing records, they all have to start somewhere.

It has been suggested that we turn our stand at the boat show into something a little more general in an endeavour to support and put in front of Joe Public - of which some 50,000 to 80,000 will pass our stand - our sport. We have been given this 'platform' at the boat show and therefore we're going to use it in a way we feel should be of benefit to everyone, without any hidden agenda. If implemented correctly and transparently then it should work at all levels especially for the following clubs, PBRC - ORC - OCRDA - SEPA - UKOBA etc. That’s if they would wish to be involved and come on board. Much of this implementation will be around 'language' and we will generate a basic small leaflet that gives a quick few words on as many racing classes as possible, eg:

THUNDERCAT RACING: The world's wildest watersport. Small inflatable catamaran boats which race at high speed on tight dramatic courses. Amazing in the surf, this class is raced throughout the world and is one of the cheapest forms of powerboat racing.
Further Details: www.thundercatracing.co.uk

To make it work, we need help from each Club – with some text explaining their part of the sport - and we will need help manning the stand. A few people from each club giving as many days as possible. It has to be emphasised that everyone helping to promote "Powerboat Racing in the UK" will have to do so at their own expense but all are welcome.

We are making the leaflets and stand images in the attached format, we have very little time to make all this happen so we have pushed ahead to get this done on our own initiative. If you are prepared to help then that will be great, it's only a few days out of your lives and we should have some fun on the stand.

This is a rare opportunity to promote our sport and your clubs. Email me at mikelloyd00@gmail.com if you want to help.

I will be on the CMBA stand as part of the 'Classic Boat' stand so if you have any literature I will gladly put it out as well as our bumpf. If it's a yes then I will pop over & see someone on my first visit there next Friday.

This year we will have a nice late 50's Coventry Climax powered aluminium Albatross 2 seater skiboat as a centrepiece to our stand.
