out of the top 30 posters on this forum i reckon only 5 have been in a race in 2010. however at least 3 others have spent money intending to race this year but didnt make it

Why should you have to pay up to 13k entry fees, who gets this money and what are they going to do with it?Why not have a R B "rally",all interested parties talk on here, work out your refeulling stages, send the wives/girlfriends/employees round to each stop over with the trailers,i will bring the marquee/mobile bar/toilet block/disco/karoke gear and will even provide some half decent trophies, not the usual plastic/chromed shit normally given out,all we need to arrange is a campsite at each stage, everybody pays their own expenses,no fees to anyone,as its only a "rally",no need for any race related authority to poke their noses in,no need for "organisers" charging fees, organise it between ourselves on here, for us only.BOATMAD.COM R.B.RALLY 2011.As is up for it,i do parties.Lets talk.

Yet again Blastoff has been missed off the list.......not in the calendar and now we haven't raced.......are we invisible?
I have spent a small fortune this year on three races, and we have had incredible bad luck with silly things breaking.
Thats racing......
I will do the same next year and still be proud to be a part of it.
I am also a board director of the BPRC and know how much effort goes into the running of the races as I did J m's job at Cowes and I know that his life went on hold while he put Cowes together.
Powerboat racing is a wonderful sport...why cant we all get on together?

That post is so naive that I’m left breathless. Also I deeply resent your implications that we are/might be wasting competitor’s money.
There’s only a very few on this forum who has the slightest idea how difficult and time consuming it is to organise a Powerboat/Marathon race especially races such as the CTC, RB08 and the Cowes to Monte Carlo and during the long period leading up to the race we and everyone else works for NOTHING!!!!!!. That's probably why there are very few races being organised!
If anyone was making money out of organising races everyone would be at it. Wake up Dowdy and smell the coffee, we love you dearly but with that post you went a step too far.
As an afterthought, why don’t YOU put on a Marathon race, let’s see how you do.

Cool. Have you got any dates in mind? Not sure we need any trophies though.

I never for one minute meant to suggest the money was being wasted, what does concern me is the amount of fees being quoted to join in,an awful lot of money,in fact enough dosh to maybe buy another boat,do it as a rally but still as a race,if you know what i mean, everybody will still be going for it.Regards organising races,i do know the amount of time, effort, graft needed to put the whole package together, done it twice, one an international, nearly cost me a divorce. All i have suggested is a way we can all join in and do what we all love doing most at a miminal cost to us all during the day and have some good crack each and every night for a week, got all the kit in me luton packed up and ready for the next shindig,no need to get angry,if you need a hand in organising anything, shout,my time and effort always hasbeen and always will be free, ask anyone that knows me,just done a 3 day event to launch the new landlord at me local,we packed half of shropshire into the puband it cost me personally over 3k to sponsor the event,to get feck all back but a few hugs, kisses and thank yous for putting on what every body says was the best do they had ever been to,i enjoyed doing it,i do it for the crack,i aint naive and have been smelling the coffee as you put it for years.Look forward to meeting up with you one day to do a joint venture anywhere, anytime, anyplace.Night Night Amigo, say hello to Ringo for me.

WONT COST YOU A DIME IF YOU RALLY/RACE,just your own expenses. I would rather go out with 6 ish others in my class and Rally/race than be one of one in my class, that aint a race.

Agreed. but remember, in RB08 we had 9 entries in our class. Wouldn't be surprised if CMC exceeds that figure.
And in ten years time, who will know of, or remember your rally? 38 years on, any self respecting powerboater knows of the 1972 London Monte-Carlo event, most of the entries, and who won.

Offshore isn't just about the big boys. We're desperately trying to get basic racing back on the map over here in Guernsey and next year I'm doing my best to ressurect Guernsey powerboat week with the marathon fleet. I'll have to start a thread on that to get everyone's thoughts on some great potential courses etc!
There's at least 10 people on here who actively race in Guernsey, I'm one of them and I also help people out with mechanics where I can, have rigged 2 of the fleet and I'm Chairman of the club.
As for people doing rallies, it's all a great idea until someone gets hurt.
Sad reality is that the chances of everyone pulling together and organising a good 'rally' is pretty slim, then someone gets hurt and blame starts flying, the buck has to stop somewhere, who wants that position?
James

I race the Guernsey series and am very proud to have competed in it.
No £1300 entry fees for our races
