Racing's a funny game, Isn't?
Seeing all the antics on boatmad has made me think. And the more I think the more baffled I become. All the people on Boatmad obviously have an interest in powerboat racing. Yet all you seem to do is moan. You moan about the RYA, you moan about people organising new series, you moan about the existing organisers, you moan about the politics, you moan about your competitors. In fact on the moaning front you're WORLD CHAMPIONS and you haven't even got your boats and your bums WET YET.
So let's review the facts.
To go racing you need one or two things in place.
You need someone to bother to organise it. Why anyone would go to the trouble is beyond me! Because the moment they put their head above the parapet you lot shoot it straight down.
Anyway, assuming you are stupid enough to be prepared to take the flak, you organise an event.
Firstly you need a Venue. This is not easy in today's political climate because let's face it, powerboat racing is not a GREEN SPORT - carbon footprints comes to mind! The Local Authorities happy to let events run in their waters are become less by the year. As for Local Authority financial support - you're having a laugh! Local taxpayers are not keen to support an event that has no benefit to them. Then you get into the BUGS AND BUNNIES BRIGADE. You know - treehuggers! Who consider powerboat racing to be tantamount to murder - you might kill a poor destitute prawn that only lives on the 2nd bit of seaweed 3rd rock from the right.
So you're stupid enough to battle through the above red tape - you've murdered, you've raped and finally cajoled into submission.
SO YOU NOW HAVE A VENUE - WHAT ABOUT THE MENU?
So you rush out and spend lots of money on:
Buying the equipment to stage the event (radios, flags, turnbuoys, anchors, chains, rope, etc ad infinitum)
Safety boats & officials
Cranes
RYA Event Insurance
Accommodation for officials & organisers
Cajol, blackmail, bribe and corrupt officials to attend
Paperwork - Amazon forests now lacking a few large trees - Course approvals 30 days prior to an event.
The poor fictitious organiser HAS ACHIEVED the above. PHEW ...
And announce the event is happening and now all they get is moan moan moan and more MOANS from the very people who they were organising an event for in the first place.
As an outsider looking in with a little bit knowledge - I think you all need to rethink the way you support powerboat racing. Otherwise it will become as dead as the proverbial DODO and the only people you will be able to blame are yourselves, but of course it will never be your fault - and then you can all go back to BOATMAD and moan and moan and moan and moan. And MORE MOANS as you now have nowhere to Race.
But I'm just an outsider looking in. What do I know?

..or, of course, you could throw your support into the races/classes that are already running, help sort out the tension/bickering that seems to arise by inserting some adult influence rather than starting new classes...just a thought as an ill informed "observer"..

You know what they say about a little knowledge!
I think you will find that only a small percent of members are interested in powerboat racing, the rest just want to watch!

I would argue with you, but I saw you pick up two 300 powerheads and load them into my truck, and I think I am too scared to argue....
( however, if I were to argue, I would suggest that someone like you take on a role in the RYA and get down to the events, and no one would dare step out of line. )

Not everybody is moaning, you always got a few think they can do better, but damn, we race so often and always respect all the efforts organizers do, try and read some topics after a race, let's say the BRASS MONKEY, or the organisation RED SEA RALLY... but hey, you are just an outsider, but dont think so...rather an insider (2nd account) and frustrated maybe.

I know for sure that Paul has no connection with WSS. I did ask him though, he denied all knowledge. Also spelling & grammar is far to good for Paul. Paul did mention that Bandit should know better than to spread unsubstantiated rumors about him though!!

If he's the same guy who was trying to pump "Snake Oils" for all mans insecurities a couple of days back, does he have a potion that turns a Bombard AX3 into a 30' Phallus with twin 525SCi's?
He'd sure have some taker's then.
