Just while I think of it, we have managed to get the RB08 film onto SKY Sports, I will post the dates and times when I hear.

RYA Meeting

Can anybody post me the info on where & what time the RYA mtg is. We may be able to present the race format to the RYA officials whilst they are all together. This would be great for the RB11 team to gather all the learning points from RB08. Annie has already sent me a few key points that we are integrating in to the RB11 presentation to be discussed on the 5th.

If this is not possible ideally I would like to meet RYA officials before the 5th of December.

I believe that secretly many of the fantastic officials from RB8 would love to be involved again in RB11. Yes it was hard work but at the same time lots of fun. ......... after all most of them are at home gardening

The RYA powerboat racing officals seminar starts at 930 at the RYA. It runs until 345pm. It has bits for all the officals so they are likely to be there, do not know if many racers will,

Although as you point out ML to some people very ugly looks like my for sale post is old news as it has now a new role read on ...

It's sleek, it's fast, and it's reinforced with a ton of bullet-proof Kevlar armour.

Myself and Tom Chilton would be in. Will try and get to Drivers in December. If all goes well with my sponsor, we should hopefully have a new boat on the water in the Spring.

Historically, lifters have been fragile, troublesome bits of kit, with many a race boat being towed in with the motor(s) hanging off the back.

The Marathon rules were written with a mind to encourage strong boats, rigged in a way that will finish the long legs that this type of racing has, without the need for any assistance. (being as we effectively don't have safety cover along the route)

Hence, relatively high minimum weights, and a leaning towards simple, robust rigging that will be more resistant to failure under a beating.

If someone wants to run an all singing, all dancing hokey koki 2000 sprint boat, they need to find a class of racing that's suited to it.

Ah yes, until end of 2011.

Imagine though, if you end up retiring because of broken fragile bits!

Well 'Harmonic Balancers', but yes, exactly like that. Though the engines have to have those, they're not a bolt on fragile go-faster option.

unfortunatly niether were the lifters, without them a) the powerheads would have been swamped and b) we couldnt get on the plane. I can only recall one occasion when they were actual used during a leg in the search for a little more top end.

Not a terribly suitable boat for Marathon racing then really, is it!

To be fair after a bit of testing "to destruction" we found that the Gorilla III Stainless Marine lifters were actually stronger than the Mercury Offshore saddles! Despite that if I was rigging an endurance boat I would leave them off if possible - the time gained by using lifters versus the downside of a failure doesn't balance out IMHO.

If you were rigging a boat for Marathon, you'd be leaving them off definitely, not 'if possible' unless you previously raced that setup in 08 Marathon.
