It completed the course except the last bit of the first leg which had nothing to do with lifters or the type of boat but a missed place bilge pump handle of all things

yes we did have some issues with the 'organic navigation interfaces' but thats why we brought spare crew with us in the first place! We were in good enough shape for a class win on the final leg.

A boat I thought would fair better in endurance is the Buzzi 33Rib Biretta, I know they had a lot of deisel issue's in the RB but they also appeared (although I may be wrong) of the pace in the Marathon series races, I had thought these were 75+mph rough weather boats and would of trounced the similar engined Scorpion ribs, but it appears not so

Yes, I know, but if there had been 500 miles of conditions like we had coming out of Edinburgh, all the 'sprint' fellas would have been using their radios a lot.
I know we've been round and over this too much already, but we had it easy in 08. That many miles, in seas in those parts of the world could get really, really ugly. That's why the rules attempt to encourage boats that are less likely to need a visit from the chaps in orange & blue.

They certainly saved Alan Priddy.
+ they looked so very elegant too.
All Markus actually needed was the internal bouyancy that all the sensible teams had in their boat anyway.

Ahh wondered about that, I just thought he had underestimated the weight of the beast or they did not have time to secure them I had assumed they were obligatory ... I hope the lovely Cinzano is fully inflated it would be a shame to give the fishes a new home with that boat

Great meeting today at Drivers for the RB11. Huge excitement I thought by everyone.
I will leave it to Dean to flesh out the details but for purely selfish reasons I am pleased that he is pushing ahead with the race as it means that I can fulfill a 25 year ambition and take part, can't wait!

rb11 on the move
Hello,
unfortunately I could not attend, but Eric was there and yes we are in anyway (Cinzano558).
I am shure that RB11 will go and as much as I can help from my end, I am willing to help.
Last time we could support by finding two sponsors and may be we can get them again?!
By the way in RB08 the swordfish had its forward bunks and bed and seating area foamed out. In the forward and aft cabin instead of the original matresses we had inflatable units. We do know that the boat was afloat for 24 minutes after the incident behaving as Martin Lays Formula in CTC09.
The inflated units must have been too weak to withstand the waterpressure so Blue Marlin finally went down as soon as we could see the Lifeboat on the horizon.
Well history now and yes insurance has paid in full, so there was budget for Cinzano.
Cinzano is using 4 strong (and very heavy) tubes in the bow that should last in case.
Best Regards from Germany
Markus Hendricks

Let's go round again
I agree, a good meeting.
Plenty of enthusiasm too. Mike Deacon told me that although he was initially sceptical about the race, after seeing the turnout and enthusiasm yesterday, he's sold on it.
I quite liked the idea of no tech support for the Bangor stop, and also think it's a fantastic idea of Deans to make leg 1 a round of the 2011 Marathon championship.
It really makes it possible for those unable to do the whole RB, a chance to join in with all the fun and excitement of the lead up and 1st mass start at Portsmouth. Simple, but excellent.
I thought Dean spoke well, and covered everything we needed at this stage.
If we get similar numbers to the start line as 2008 (which I reckon we will), it's going to be a great event. We all learned a lot in '08, and hopefully, we can put those learnings to good effect 'next time around'.
I think that for all those who can't afford to do the larger RB12 event (this includes SwipeWipes), this is an absolute godsend and we should get firmly behind it and do all we can to ensure it's success.
I recorded the meeting, and if there's enough interest in hearing what was said/covered, I could host it on here for all that didn't make it to the meeting to hear.
JF

What about......... making the final leg of the RB11 from Lowestoft the 2nd round of the Marathon series for 2011 with Cowes being the 3rd?
There could well be several teams who can't afford the whole race but could do the first and last legs and would enjoy being part of.
Just my tuppence worth........, or is that a step too far?
ML
