So I had to do something.

That picture is me after The Prospect Dinner!
Mike Lloyd had no choice, he had to recruit anyone and everyone to get the race to run.

I will clear this one up for you Tony but have to say you guys do give good value for money on here.
The Pits Marshall that was appointed by P1 pulled out at the last moment due to work commitments. Tony Fiddy offered his services to me and regardless of what you say he is a bloody good Pit Marshall as long as he is given the right agenda, ie: don't offend the racers and be polite. He did all that I asked of him and more and there were no complaints. He organised the "Pits" so well I see he got a 5/5 from the RYA Commissioner. Frankly that's good enough for me, he didn't need supervision and allowed the rest of us to get on with whatever jobs we had to do. His "RB" problem is therefore forgiven, by me at least.

Respect
I post very rarely these days......too busy on the boats all day.
However I would like to state my admiration and respect for all those who have tirelessly strived and worked their n...ts off to make 2008 offshore racing in the UK a year to be remembered.
I know many of the names involved, but not all of them. If you are one of them you have my sincere respect and admiration. Especially you Mr Fuller,
you stopped talking a good game, worked and played a great game. At the same time you competed, risking like all, your life and boat. (Great looking boat by the way)
Real sorry I missed a great year, but congrats to all involved, organisers and racers.
If any of you are in Malta, give me a bell and I'll buy you a drink.

Long live amateurs and enthusiasts with heart deep passion.
Cheers Paul

Given the Shortage of time given to organise this event to It's succesfull conclusion ,there seems to be a renewed optimism and enthusiasm for the future of the CTC
Perhaps it was the sponsors pulling out awoke many as to the vunerability of the sport, but the guts and determination of of this band of brothers from the organisers to the army of marshalls dotted along the length of the course made it all come right
I can't wait for next year and I hope to be a part of it .
It also sounds like there may be more than a few restoration projects of past ctc boats taking place that will add a nostalgic and exciting edge to 2009
BRING IT ON !!!!

Divin is one of me all time favourites.
|
The heli pilot who was tracking us could do 120 and he couldn't stay with us at times and it was from him that we were told 117....
When Divin was built by CC for the original owner Omar Ellisgere (wrong spelling ) CC threw 1 million dollars at getting right as the wanted the American Championship and were apparently hoping to set up a one off series.
She was an amazing boat and had no trim but did like to go on her starboard sponson and run with all three crew ending in one seat infact we nearly went over chasing Gancia in the fateful '87 Poole race

you can't claim the fastest elapsed time, but you can claim the highest average speed ever attained in the race.
Cutting out one of the Solent legs is hardly going to increase your average speed. more likely to reduce it with 'average' sea conditions in Lyme bay.
