RIBs?

At the risk of starting a holy war, are RIBs eligible for entry into 3C?

I suppose that letting RIBs enter just wouldn't be fair on the others

What is the spec for 3c? Other than their vast and indisputable superiority is there any reason why RIBs shouldn't take part?

Just thought it might be one possible way of getting the numbers up . . .

Well obviously if it's rough, the legendary sea keeping of 'any' rib would give it a wholy unfair advantage!

I'm not sure of the up to date rules, but I'm sure Adam will know.

Cookees boat certainly met the RIB and 3C rules, so I guess it's possible.

Cookee will probably be back in 3-C soon, as he can't beat the best of F2 RIB

They would have to put a rule in banning them although the cube rule might keep out "normal" RIBs with a floor as opposed to an all over deck like mine. It was hilarious when I was getting it measured and no-one had seen it - the whole of the RYA were almost refusing to even look at it because they thought it was going to be a regular RIB with a floor in it and they couldn't possibly have that racing in 3C!

I believe the other RIB that would qualify is the one that Mark Pascoe made and has just been sold and will be in F2 in 05, but if you wanted to guarantee getting in I think you would need a deck as opposed to a floor or a good lawyer!

I have actually beaten all of the RIBs - to be fair not all on the same day though! We are doing some stuff this winter which will hopefully change that - after all it's about the challenge and to beat a boat with very different statistics (the diesels) in all conditions is going to be very hard.

We have won races at European level, had podiums at World level, and won a number of National races in 3C so I think we can say that we achieved some reasonable results in that class.

What's the cube rule? What are the basic requirements for a boat to enter in 3C?

Perhaps something for the powers that be to consider if they are serious about increasing the number of entries?

In 2 Litre the hull needs to be able to contain a cube of 0.46 X 1.2 X 2.75

I see your point about allowing as many boats as possible, but it isn't as if there is nowhere for them to race - we have a whole class for RIBs and I believe if the marketing and promotion is handled properly then there should be enough boats in both classes.

And what makes yo think the powers that be give a toss anyway?
