Ahh but not surprising when you take into account that removing the historic class as there is unlikely to be any ribs in that then the field is almost 75% rib and they have stronger representation in the upper speed bracket however thank gad there are so many ribs otherwise the field would be a bit depleted

The only class with lots of ribs in I really thought would come under pressure from the hardboat community is Rb 4 by JF

From reading the posts of the past few days I have been wondering how the race compares to that of the one in 1984?

I understand that there must have been a great deal of backstage work done in the process even before this race was thought about, and by the sounds of it the guy that set it up must be having nightmares from all the problems that have taken place.

Granted the weather is in the hands of the gods and nothing no one does can alter that.

Surely then there should have been contingencies made to compensate for this and time be laid aside. I would have thought that if all those taking part had laid down their own money then it would have been wiser to have had some form of insurance if that is of course appropriate?

I feel for the racers who's boats have been damaged for one reason or another, it must be an awful gut wrenching experiance, waiting 24 years to enter a competition and then for it to go all wrong.

I'm completely new to all this so please don't take offence.

I wish all the best to the remainder of the racers and hope we don't have to wait another 24 years for this to take part, it's exciting to watch, must be wonderful to be a part of and everyone seems so friendly and the community spirit is amazing.

Those Goldfish really are doing well. Who'd have thought that a couple of 36' RIBs could give a 50' Buzzi with twice the power a run for its money?

Hope they can keep it up!

Possibly for infringement of an inshore exclusion zone. I know that some areas have been placed out of bounds for environmental reasons, and I did hear that a couple of boats would be penalised after day 1 but nothing came of it.

Interesting: Trying to arrange a penalty against the RYA Powerboat Manager....

If he wants to race he should step down dont ya think?

AFAIK, there isn't a penalty against JP. The 3 with penalties under protest are Wettpunkt, Scorpion Dubois & Hot Lemon. Are you perhaps confusing Hot Lemon V (owned & skippered by Mike Deacon) with Mystic Dragon (owned & skippered by JP) - which used to be Hot Lemon IV before Mike sold it to John? They're both yellow tubed Scorpion cabin RIBs.

In my opinion, no. John is fanatical about powerboat racing, and what better qualification could you ask for? Could a non-racer do the job? Probably not.

What makes you thing that there's any conflict of interest?

Hey, get off the sodding 'net and get the boat fixed!

We're all on the edge of our seats here wondering how it's going...

Best of British to you.

The build quality is something to behold!!
The engineering and attention to detail is extaordinary. Mechanical works of art.
