Round Britain 2012

Whew, and I thought my entry fees where high and they want you to pay the VAT on top! And they want your £500 non refundable deposit NOW two and half years in advance!! This will strim out those who just wish and those who are serious.

EEntry to RB12 (Sea) is open
Deposits for the sea element of Round Britain Race 2012 can be paid from today, Friday 6th November. With over 130 registrations of interest for the 75 places, and a limit of 40 RIBS, the race is likely to be well oversubscribed - we therefore recommend early entry. A Reserve List will be in operation.

Entry Fees
A place in RB12 (Sea) is reserved by payment of a non-returnable deposit of £500 (ex VAT). On receipt of the deposit payment, RB12 will send an Entry Form for completion. Three further payments are required in accordance with the table below to guarantee a starting place. Entry to RB12 (Sea) is charged at a rate of £12.50 per horsepower(HP) ex VAT. The minimum payment is based on an estimated average of 630HP. For boats of less than 630HP, the final payment will be adjusted to reflect the correct Entry Fee. Entries for boats of unknown HP at the time of payment of the deposit should estimate and pay accordingly. Any shortfall in Stage Payments must be made up when HP is confirmed. All Entrants will be required to provide accurate and final HP by 1 January 2012.

Deposit £500.00 Date due: Nov 2009

1st Payment 30% or min £2362.50 Date due: 1st Apr 2010
2nd Payment 30% or min £2362.50 Date due: 1st Apr 2011
Final Payment 40% or final fee Date due: 1st Jan 2012

Figures exclude VAT. Note: vat rate change to 17.5% on the 1st Jan 2010

Refunds
The £500 deposit is non-returnable and reserves entry to RB12 (Sea) provided subsequent Stage Payments are made as per instructions above. The Stage Payments are also non-refundable. RB12 will, in exceptional circumstances, allow the Entrant’s place to be transferred to a new Entrant (if available), at which time Stage Payments less a 20% administration fee will be refunded. Entries are non-transferable without the written consent of the organisers.

Classes & Rules
The Race will run in accordance with the current Marathon Rules and Class Specifications as currently defined by the Royal Yachting Association (RYA), ratified by the Union Internationale Motonautique (UIM). RB12 are mindful that over the next 3 years the class structure within the current Marathon Rules could be changed by the authorities. RB12 maintains the right to widen or amalgamate Classes should the entry levels dictate.Regards

OMG

Let's get this right, last time I paid £8K to enter in my XS... this time it's 13K, somebody like Gordon in my pleasure paid £3k and now that is £9k with a refund just before the start and Fabio would b 35k!! in Red FPT

Crikey is there a top limit on what has to be paid? otherwise the fleet is not going to have many 'large boats' that we all like to look at

I need to read the email that has just arrived from Lynx

Hopefully my early calcs are wrong!

Off to have a read

Are they having a laugh, talk about pricing everyone out of the market. Can't see to many enteries at those prices. One way to kill a growing sport dead in the water.

Probably a huge improvement on that bloke that did the '08 site.

Don't mind the £500 gamble but having to pay 30% 2 years in advance could be an issue.

Need to know what were getting for our money other than going round britain at this stage

I'd suggest if you are considering entering then perhaps it would be a sensible idea to run a credit check before you pay a 'non-refundable deposit' - I just have...

This is a pretty serious event to organise and 2 1/2 years is a long lead in time.

This is excellent news, but I'm inclined to agree with Scarron to some degree. The RYA now need to issue a statement that they are happy with the company/organisation who is organising the RB12 and to where all the money will be deposited as they did with the organisers of the RB08 because if you do the figures this is as one would expect, BIG bucks.

There also needs to be a phased percentage payback, just in case the race doesn't happen for some reason.
The RYA quite rightly insisted on that with Mike Lloyd for the RB08.

Anyone who puts non refundable moneys into a company with no guarantee of the race happening or more importantly, any safe guards to protect their investment might be considered foolish. At least it would look that way when looking back, should it all go wrong.

Spoke with the RB12 Event organisers today to get a number of things clarified.
Stuart was very helpful, open & honest.

1) This is going to be a hell of an event, they have entries flooding in & it is overscribed!! There are plans for real 'value for money' which Lynx explained was missing from RB08, At the large city venues they are planning to have some concerts at others firework displays/air displays

2) The fee's for the sea event are not going to be capped, Stuart explained that the event is being ran for profit and if you can't afford it then this is not the event for you..... before everybody kicks off.... this openess is refreshing...I/we in the larger boats can now make our decision to enter based on fact. I personally believe that the decision is a tough one.... Do I pay £34,000 entry fee to enter my boat for a once in a lifetime experience... it's very tempting until I think about what else I could buy with that money...Lol

3) Lynx explained that they will only pull in to 1 or 2 marina's due to the sheer scale of the event, most overnight stops will be on floating pontoons laid along the coast

4) Some teams have already entered a joint car & boat teams

5) Lynx are proactively chasing the 'Middle East' market

6) The final fee's and what they will include will be announced March/April next year although it is expected that competiors will still be booking & paying for their own food/accomodation as this would be too big a task for Lynx to handle

Today I have had a lot of conversations with a lot of racers, I hope this information goes a little way in to a helping you to dicide whether to enter.

That could be 'interesting' if the weather isn't friendly.
