It had feckin better be, as they've been instrumental in getting our Marathon rules changed to suit them!

I will be well pissed off they've strolled in, got stuff altered just to suit them, and fail to even get the race a goer.

On that note, Jon, I am planning to organize a race and would appreciate if you could amend the marathon rules a bit. Preferably so that only norwegian-built inflatable boats between 29 ft and 36 ft can enter OK?

I wish I could help you Eirik, but I no longer have anything to do with the rules, and now that we've made the mistake of going UIM to make it an international series, control is no longer with us anyway.

However, I'm sure a Goldfish only series is possible if you talk to the right person.

John Puddifoot said on Monday that the Round Ireland Race is still on even though there is no information on the web site or anything else for that matter, just one page saying nothing. Justin McInery is in charge so I guess any requests for info should go through him.

This is a big race and the Advance Instructions should have been published and out by now putting everyone in the picture. And only 7 months go.

Yes, race is very much still on, Justin was up at the show with us last week.
That's all I know, I have nothing to do with the race organisation.

Any questions, I'd suggest giving Justin a call.

Shouldn't be a problem.

Providing you're running FPT motors of course!

James,

I don't think the D-MAXs are qualified as standard engines, so I would think C Sport is more correct. Doesn't matter - you'll win the class either way (unless I have something to do with it ). You might need to check with with UIM / RYA or whoever is responsible regarding the weight requirements. At 11.0 m LOA the minimum weight is set at (11 x 328 kg) 3 608 kg... Not sure about the weight of the 36 but I believe it is less than this. They state that the min. weight requirements are set to eliminate "flimsy" designs, so I am guessing the GF should qualify

thank you for that but i thought the RB08 boats/engines had grandfather rights for this class and the weight issue would be looked at case by case
the engines are production engines meeting CE regulations, waranty and std option to Goldfish and i have supplied to other manufactures such as Pascoe

I'd make sure the grandfather clause applies to all 36's and not just the two from RB... "Any boat that took part in the RB08 or C/T/C08 will be allowed under this 3-year clause until the end of 2011." Either way, come 2012 and this rule is no longer in effect. I'd request a written confirmation from either the organizers or the rulemakers as soon as possible that the boat is elligible.

As for the DMAX - again, not sure but check the rules (http://www.roundbritainrace.co.uk/classes.pdf) to make sure... I'm sure a lot of people on boatmad know a lot more about that shiny thingy beneath the rear hatch than I do

Please keep me posted about any info you might receive on this, James.

By the sound of the vibes coming out of the RYA ALL Marathon boats will have to be measured and have a measurement certificate issued before next years racing starts. This will be confirmed probably at the next ORC meeting in December. I have no idea if the Grandfather Rule will be affected, if at all.
