Round Ireland Race Update 15-04-10

The following is a Race Update as of the 15/04/10


Rules Clarification RI2010 as at 14/04/10

1)Marathon Rules:
All boats have to comply with existing U.I.M. Marathon rules for class displacement and weight. Only monohulls are allowed.All boats must arrive in Galway with empty fuel or water tanks with no water or free payload inside. Fixed payload is allowed but cannot be removed post inspection.
No other inspection other than displacement/weight and safety equipment as required under race rules.

2) Safety:
Safety for the event has been organised and is under the control of Richard Salaman as Race S.O. and Rob Andrews as Race O.O.D. Race safety is fully supported by the Irish Coastguard, The RNLI, and Local Powerboat Clubs and Officials as necessary. Instructions will be given on a leg-by-leg basis at the morning briefing.

3) Tracking:
All boats will carry a tracking system which is being provided by the Race organisers free of charge. This system, supplied by DKD Security uses the latest in GPS and GSM technology and will provide constant ongoing tracking capability to the Safety Team, and also online to friends, family and those wishing to track the racers progress. No 12v supply is required. The units are battery powered with 4000 hours of battery life and will be installed on each boat during the 2 days prior to the race. We will assign all trackers in advance and it will be possible to include boat name, crew names, and sponsors names on each unit to enhance the web viewing experience.

4) Briefings:
At each morning briefing it will be clearly decided if the race is going on, or postponed one day, or cancelled, in function of weather conditions. Decision will be taken only by the safety officer of the day.

5) Race Start:
Each days racing will start at 9 a.m. This will be preceded by a mandatory crew briefing at 7.30a.m. There will be a prize giving each evening including entertainment and fun at 8.00 p.m.

6) Safety equipment:
Must comply with Marathon rules.

7) Safe Harbour:
All possible escape or bail-out harbours will be provide in race instructions and also at the briefing each day. A map of the relevant leg will be provided daily with related safety phone numbers and radio channels.

8) Stage Cancellation:
In case of race cancellation, all teams will transfer by road to the next start point. A briefing will take place at 8 p.m. at the stage location for the next day’s racing.

9) Prize Giving:
All classes will receive a 1st, 2nd, 3rd prize trophy at each leg.

10) Race Instructions: Full race instructions, including details mapping and notes will be issued on the 21st of April at the latest. These will be published online and also as hard copy. They will be available for download and will be posted to all competitors immediately they become available.

11) Special Trophy:
A special prize and trophy will be provided which is open to the winners of the 9 classes under Marathon Rules. This will be awarded to the winner of the class that has the best overall average speed in relation to his fastest leg. In other words, first you must win your class, and then we take your fastest leg of the 5 stages and compare it to your average speed over the 5 stages. The winner will be the competitor whose average is closest to his fastest leg.

12) Entry Fees:
Entry Fees for the race have been set as follows:a. Class A and Class B: €4000b. Class C+ and Class C: €3000c. All other classes: €2000

A discount of 50% has been negotiated for all International competitors arriving by water from Irish Ferries Ltd who have sailings from the UK and France to Ireland. It has also been agreed that the balance 50% of the ferry fee will be refunded to all competitors as a deduction from their entry fee if paid in full by the 10th of May 2010. All Fees must be paid in full by the 31st of May 2010 to be eligible to race.
