Question RYA Incentive!!!

Hello,

How many of you have seen the new RYA so called INCENTIVE to get us to sign up to the championship series early??? If you get your forms in by 14th April you automatically start the championship with 200points before you boat goes near the water........
How an earth can a season be started with some racers earning 200points before the boat is even put in the water!! Surely our racing is on the water and not in the RYA's administrative offices. There is nothing in PB1 2006 to say that championship points can be awarded outside of a race.
We think this is apalling an simply should not be allowed!!

Comments everyone/anyone................

I "think" I agree, based on my limited knowledge of the facts.

If the idea is to get race entries in early, a hefty financial incentive would have done the job fine - or if not, made the rya a load more money. A win win situation.

Before everyone embarks on a rant, please will someone phone the RYA and get the background to the decision, whether it is open to negotiation, if there is an alternative, etc.
Once the facts are straight, it is then worth everyone working together to come to a collective agreement.

See what the facts are when know I suppose but that deadline is ticking down.
if this was posted on April 1 I'd think it was a fool.
Whilst on RYA 2 Event licences Suck IMHO anyway, at Best I'll do 1 this year 2 Next. So that really was an encouraging move wasn't it! Sure Gav would comment

the 2 event licence thing is crap IMO, i would like to spend this year doing as many basics as i can afford to get a feel for the sport, as it stands i have only 1 race left this season to have another go.......... and i dont think that is enough experience to judge next seasons racing on! so if we want to get some more hands on experience, we have to spend spend spend & spend! (with no sponsorship)......... very helpfull and encouraging wouldn't you say!

You guys are missing out on the obvious, if you get your entry form in for a now defunt class, like 3b or similar before the deadline, then with your 200 bonus points you can win the championship without even owning a fecking boat, let alone having to pay entry fees etc.

Noe that is what i call cheap racing!

And you thought the RYA were stoopid!

iNCENTIVE

It looked to me (ORDA Newsletter) that this was ORDA's incentive for the RYA championship NOT the RYA's I also note that you can get points not only for just starting a race but also for not even being there.
On the licence cost If you only did say six events on event licences that is more than the cost of a national licence anyway !!
It does not look as though they will budge on this one , the argument being that you dont need a medical for event licence but you do for a national !! So you can only do 4 races if you are not fit but not 5 !!

boat

I thought it was 19' (Offshore 200) !! Anyway its not a bigger boat you need its a smaller engine. then you could do 10 OCR events, 20 Races for £340 Licence !! thats only £17 per Race (Bargain)

Is this the paragraph that started this all off? ORDA newsletter I believe.

'Early Entry to National Series gains Extra Points !!!
Those crews who enter the National Series before
the cut off date of 31/03/06 will gain an extra 200
points in the National Series, to start their tally! This
will also apply to those teams running the new "Green"
engines says John Puddifoot, RYA Powerboat Racing
Manager.
New Teams, in previously un-raced boats, starting
after the cut off date, will also be eligible or the bonus
points to start off their tally.'

I think ya right best to get this qualified before going mad on it. It's never been mentioned to us in KCLASS before so would be nice to kept in the loop.....

19' 200? can anyone clarify this?

Bob, the reason i have not pursued the OCR route is my concern that the 600 is a tad too heavy.
On average how many corners are there in an ocr circuit and how many laps do you run per race?

Offshore 200 is min 18' max 200hp.

OCR Weight not major issue Boats are generally 600kg plus although there is no longer a weight limit.
7 to 9 turns approx 1.5 mls per lap each heat 25mins + 1 lap approx 12 - 14 laps depending on conditions !!
